Resident Evil Insider Gives Update on Next Remake

A well-known Resident Evil insider has given an update on the next Resident Evil remake. In 2019, Capcom began the journey of remaking Resident Evil games, starting with one of the most popular, Resident Evil 2. Then, in 2020, it followed this up with a remake of Resident Evil 3. Three years after this, it provided the latest Resident Evil remake, a remake of Resident Evil 4, which may be the best remake yet. Two years later, there is no word of the next Resident Evil remake, and with Resident Evil Requiem set to be the series’ 2026 release, it doesn’t look like this will change anytime soon.

While there has been no official word from Capcom about the next Resident Evil remake, there have been plenty of rumors. To this end, there’s a brand new rumor that reveals the next Resident Evil remake, a remake of Resident Evil Zero, was supposed to originally be out by now, but it had an internal delay.

The Wait Wasn’t Supposed to Be This Long

The new rumor comes the way of Dusk Golem, a well-known and fairly reliable source when it comes specifically to Resident Evil. According to the insider, Resident Evil Zero Remake didn’t just have an internal delay, but an entire reboot during development.

“Originally, Zero Remake and Resident Evil Requiem were meant to be out by now. But both received internal delays, Zero received a form of reboot, and changed hands in who’s working on it late last year.”

Typically, it’s not great when a game gets a reboot during development, but this is actually quite common for the series, according to the insider.

“Keep in mind that various scopes of reboots are common in this series, not indicative of final game quality. For example, RE:2 and RE:4 received mid-development reboots, and RE:4 even traded hands on who was working on it as well, as an example. Just part of how these games are made sometimes.”

When Will Resident Evil Zero Remake Release?

Unfortunately, this new report does not say when the next Resident Evil remake will be released. The fact, assuming this report is true, that the remake was supposed to be out already may suggest it’s not very far away, but it appears to be. Capcom is not going to release it in the same year it releases Resident Evil Requiem, which would mean the earliest it could arrive is in 2027. Meanwhile, those hoping for a remake of Resident Evil 5 are going to have to wait even longer than this.
