Through three games, Insomniac has introduced quite a few characters in its Spider-Man franchise. Mary Jane, Miles Morales, Sandman, Kraven the Hunter, Harry Osborn, Doctor Octopus, Mister Negative, Norman Osborn, and a large swathe of the webhead’s friends and enemies have already been in the games. Miles Morales already got a spin-off of his own before being one of the two protagonists for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. Excluding Miles, since he’s really as fitting a protagonist as Peter at this point, there are so many other characters who could also get their own games, ranging from villains to anti-heroes. Here are the three most deserving of a spin-off.

1. Venom

It should come as no surprise that Venom lands on this list because it genuinely felt like Insomniac was going to make a Venom spin-off. You literally had to play a sequence as Venom in Spider-Man 2, and it was such a fun time that everyone expected and hoped for more Venom. In Sony’s Spider-Man villains universe and sometimes in the comics, Venom is an anti-hero, so he would make arguably the best game out of all Insomniac Spider-Man villains. Plenty of good storylines are there, and it would make sense in the universe with any non-Harry Osborn host.
What makes this such a great idea, though, is that it’s different enough from Spider-Man but not too jarring. You’d still climb walls and spin webs, but you’d also be able to destroy everything and jump halfway across New York. It would be similar enough to work as a segue into potential other spin-offs with other characters, but different enough to justify being its own game. If successful, it could pave the way for other spinoffs, thus creating a huge Insomniac universe that keeps them making Spider-Man titles for the foreseeable future.
2. Black Cat

With how fast Insomniac runs through Spider-Man villains, it’s a good idea to find ways to reuse them in other games, and Black Cat could easily have her own game. She works best as a thief, so Insomniac could design the games around stealth, an aspect that is present but not the focal point of all three Spider-Man titles.
It could function as a bit of a mystery (think Batman: Arkham, but with Black Cat) and could eventually rope Spider-Man in as an NPC once things got out of hand, which is a classic occurrence for Felicia Hardy and Peter Parker. Unlike Venom, this would be a very different game, but that might work to differentiate it, especially if there’s also a Venom game. There can’t be too much wall-crawling in this universe, so while Black Cat can use those abilities with her suit, the focus would be on other things.
3. Kraven the Hunter

It’s a shame Kraven the Hunter died in Spider-Man 2 since he’s one of the most fascinating rogues in the gallery. It’s also a shame that he killed so many of the other good rogues before dying. However, therein lies the immense potential for a new game. We don’t have many games where you play as an outright villain. While Kraven is certainly a noble character in many respects, there’s not much noble about going around New York killing everyone like he did. That makes it a unique game and prevents the anti-hero slant from being too oversaturated.
Insomniac wouldn’t need to stop there, though. They could take it back even further to before Kraven got to New York. If Sony felt that they could make a Kraven origin story movie, then Insomniac, which has a better track record with the Spider-Man characters, can absolutely do the same. They could begin with his origin and then have the final climax of the game be his New York hunt for villains, making it a true spin-off that happens at the same time as the events of the main game.
