The Witcher 4 Release Window Announced by CD Projekt Red

CD Projekt Red has announced the official release window for The Witcher 4. Since revealing the game at the end of 2024 with an extensive first trailer, CDPR has continued to provide routine updates on the next installment in its beloved RPG series. Despite talking about the project openly, the developer had yet to provide a timeline for when The Witcher 4 would arrive. Now, that has finally changed, as news on the game’s release has been shared for the first time.

In a new video posted to social media today, CD Projekt Red co-CEO Michaล‚ Nowakowski provided an update about the future of The Witcher franchise as a whole. Regarding The Witcher 4 specifically, Nowakowski said that the studio is currently targeting a release for the game in 2028. A more well-defined date, month, or quarter within this year wasn’t provided, but this is the first instance in which The Witcher 4 has been given even a broad launch window.

Perhaps the biggest thing to glean from this news is Nowakowski stressing that 2028 is merely a targeted release window for The Witcher 4. Given how far away this year still is, there are plenty of things that could change with The Witcher 4’s development behind the scenes which could lead to the game getting hit with a delay. Considering that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and Cyberpunk 2077 both received multiple delays of their own before finally releasing, there’s a distinct possibility that the same thing could happen with The Witcher 4.

In the interim, however, CDPR is still looking to support The Witcher 3 with new DLC. To that end, Nowakowski talked about how the studio will be showing off a ton of new footage of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Songs of the Past at Gamescom this week. This expansion will add a new region to the game and tell a new story involving Geralt of Rivia. Currently, Songs of the Past is lined up to launch in 2027, but a more specific date for its arrival could be announced in the days to come. Whenever we have more information on this front, we’ll be sure to bring it to you here on ComicBook.

As for The Witcher 4, the game is currently in the works for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC platforms. Given that it won’t be launching until 2028, there’s a chance that it will also end up arriving on PS6 and Xbox’s upcoming Project Helix hardware, assuming that both platforms are available by the time that the game arrives.
