In the past several years, toy companies have taken a lot of heat — and rightfully so — for failing to produce or not making nearly enough toys based on female characters, such as Black Widow, Wonder Woman, Rey, General Leia, Captain Phasma, and Maz Kanata. It sounds like that won’t be an issue with the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 toy-line.

On Friday, during an impromptu Twitter Q&A, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 director James Gunn was asked by a concerned-fan (Brandon Streussnig): “I know you have no say over this but can you scream at Marvel/Disney/Hasbro to make JUST ONE NEBULA FIGURE!?”

“I’ve discussed this a LOT with the toy companies,” Gunn replied; “worry not, lots of Nebula toys in your future.”

This is neither the first nor the second time Gunn has addressed this concern. A year ago, Gunn met with a Marvel producer to discuss Gamora being represent more in merchandising material, and back in June, Gunn wrote, “I’m making sure this time around the female characters are more represented in the toy world. Not only Gamora, but Mantis, Nebula, and Elizabeth Debicki’s character as well.”

To be fair, LEGO did produce and release a Marvel Super Heroes minifigure of Nebula in 2014, so the fierce, blue-skinned warrior wasn’t completed unrepresented in the toy aisle; however, one or two or even three figures based on a female character doesn’t really qualify as progress, but it is better than nothing.

Set to the backdrop of ‘Awesome Mixtape #2,’ Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 continues the team’s adventures as they traverse the outer reaches of the cosmos. The Guardians must fight to keep their newfound family together as they unravel the mysteries of Peter Quill’s true parentage. Old foes become new allies and fan-favorite characters from the classic comics will come to our heroes’ aid as the Marvel cinematic universe continues to expand.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is written and directed by James Gunn (Slither). The film marks the return of the original Guardians, including Chris Pratt (Jurassic World) as Peter Quill/Star-Lord; Zoe Saldana (Star Trek Into Darkness) as Gamora; Dave Bautista (Spectre) as Drax; Vin Diesel (Furious 7) as the voice of Groot; Bradley Cooper (American Sniper) as the voice of Rocket; Michael Rooker (Jumper) as Yondu; Karen Gillan (The Big Short) as Nebula; and Sean Gunn (Gilmore Girls) as Kraglin. New cast members include Pom Klementieff (Oldboy), Elizabeth Debicki (The Great Gatsby, Everest), Chris Sullivan (The Knick, The Drop) and Kurt Russell (The Hateful Eight, The Thing).
