James McAvoy Will Reportedly Appear In X-Men: The New Mutants

Back in April, it was rumored that Anya Taylor-Joy (The Witch) will play Magik, the sister of Colossus Illyana Rasputin; Maisie Williams (Game of Thrones) will play the feral Wolfsbane, a Scottish shape-shifter; and Alexandra Shipp (X-Men Apocalypse) will reprise her Storm role in Josh Boone's X-Men: The New Mutants. Since then, neither actress has been confirmed for the film; however, in August, Taylor-Joy acknowledged the rumor: "I think the world is really fascinating. I'd love to be a part of it. It would be wonderful."

Today, while doing press for M. Night Shyamalan's demented and twisted new film Split, Taylor-Joy mentioned seeing the recently-released New Mutants animatic featuring Magik, Wolfsbane, and Cannonball facing off against Demon Bear — a threat that feeds off negative human emotion

“I have [seen the Demon Bear animatic], it’s pretty cool,” Taylor-Joy told Coming Soon. “I’m a big fan so I’d love to be a part of it. I can’t say very much, but I would love to be a part of it. I think this year’s gonna be very exciting.”

Sounding as though she is contention or secretly has a role in the film, Coming Soon asked Taylor-Joy if she would like to reunite with her Split co-star James McAvoy — who has portrayed Charles Xavier (a.k.a. Professor X) in X-Men film series — The New Mutants movie. “I mean, I think James is already a part of it, isn’t he?” she replied.

This isn't a surprise by any means. In May, producer Simon Kinberg basically confirmed James McAvoy's involvement. “Right now, as the movie exists, Professor X would be a part of a New Mutants movie,” Kinberg told Collider.

While the mental divisions of those with dissociative identity disorder have long fascinated and eluded science, it is believed that some can also manifest unique physical attributes for each personality, a cognitive and physiological prism within a single being.

Though Kevin (James McAvoy) has evidenced 23 personalities to his trusted psychiatrist, Dr. Fletcher (Betty Buckley), there remains one still submerged who is set to materialize and dominate all the others. Compelled to abduct three teenage girls led by the willful, observant Casey (Anya Taylor-Joy, The Witch), Kevin reaches a war for survival among all of those contained within him—as well as everyone around him—as the walls between his compartments shatter apart.

Split will be in theaters on January 20, 2017.
