The Gifted Renewed for Season 2

Fox has renewed The Gifted for season 2, making the official announcement of the X-Men series' continuation during the Winter 2018 TCA Press Tour.

The Gifted's continuation was something of a question, as the show hit season-low ratings going into December, with just 2.8 million viewers, and a .8 rating in the 18-49 demographic. Given the steady decline in ratings since the series premiere (4.85 million viewers and 1.5 in the 18 to 40 demo), The Gifted was definitely considered a "bubble show." With the season 2 announcement, it's clear that Fox is re-investing in the show for at least one more season, allowing time for the digital streaming services and home video to help build awareness.

The Gifted has steadily increased its use of X-Men comic book lore, introducing characters like Ahab and his Hounds, or The Stepford Cuckoos, to referencing major characters like Magneto, The Hellfire Club, or the X-Men themselves. That's only built the level of excitement and anticipation for fans who have stuck with the series, while opening the door for the show to expand into much more comic book lore in coming seasons.

You can check out the official press release from Fox, below, which includes details on the upcoming two-hour Gifted season 1 finale, as well as some... creative spin on the current ratings of the show:

FOX has renewed THE GIFTED, the family adventure series set in Marvel's "X-Men" universe, for a second season.

In the all-new, two-hour season finale of THE GIFTED, "eXtraction/X-roads," airing Monday, Jan. 15 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX, Dr. Campbell (guest star Garret Dillahunt) attends the Humanity Today summit, attempting to take the Hound program national, while some of the team at Mutant HQ go on a dangerous mission to stop his efforts. Then, the Mutant HQ comes under attack. With everything to lose, alliances shift and relationships are put to the test.

Ranking as the No. 3 new drama of the 2017-2018 season, THE GIFTED is averaging a 2.0/7 in Live + 7 ratings and has built upon FOX's year-ago time period by +18%. The GIFTED averages 8.3 Million Total Viewers across platforms, representing a +146% lift from its Live + Same Day delivery.

The Gifted wraps up season 1 with a two-hour finale on Monday, January 15th @ 8/7c on Fox.
