With the Marvel television universe constantly expanding through deals with Netflix, Hulu, and Freeform, it's easy to forget that there is also another project in development at ABC.
The project in question is the long in development John Ridley project (American Crime Story). There isn't much known about what the project involves other than it's set to "revolve around the reinvention of an existing Marvel superhero character or property for ABC." That is certainly very broad, though some have suspected it is a series involving The Inhumans.
Channing Dungey, who heads ABC's entertainment division, recently spoke to EW about the status of the series and did confirm it is still in development.
"(Laughs) Yeah, so John is working on a rewrite of that script for Marvel at the moment. We have not seen a new version of it. He's been on production of his show, over in London, and on season 3 of American Crime, so those are the things that have been top of mind for him of late. But I have heard from Marvel that he is working on a revision to that script."
Marvel's Agents of SHIELD hasn't been a ratings powerhouse, but it's developed a strong core following over its 4 seasons. ABC canceled it's other Marvel project Agent Carter after its second season, and decided not to option the Most Wanted spinoff series. Hopefully, fans will get more concrete information on this mysterious project soon.
