Marvel's Agents of SHIELD is less than one week away from returning from its midseason break and launching into the new LMD storyline with the midseason premiere episode "Broken Promises."
The midseason finale of Agents of SHIELD, "The Laws of Inferno Dynamics," revealed that Agent Melinda May (Ming-Na Wen) had been kidnapped and replaced with a life model decoy (LMD) that looked identical to her. While Aida (Mallory Jansen), the original LMD, was seen tending to May at the end of the episode, Wen warns that it's Aida's creator, Dr. Holden Radcliffe (John Hannah) who is really pulling the string.
"The big question is, 'What is Radcliffe's motivation?' — not so much Aida's — because he's the taskmaster in this whole scheme of changing out May for the LMD May, Wen tells TVLine. "Is [his agenda] for something good … or is he the mad scientist hoping to advance science? I don't think he went through all this trouble for s–ts and giggles!"
Radcliffe and Aida aren't the one's with secrets, though. SHIELD director Jeffrey Mace (Jason O'Mara) is hiding something. He claims to be an Inhuman, but is that the truth?
"How Mace got his powers, his whole backstory, is going to be a major part of the next batch of episodes," says Jason O'Mara. "How he legitimizes Daisy is going to be revealed as well, so there's lots to look forward to there."
In Agents of SHIELD: LMD, though Coulson and May are growing closer, Coulson remains unaware of the dark secret May is hiding beneath the surface. Meanwhile, Aida is unrelenting in her search for the Darkhold.
Agents of SHIELD returns to ABC on Jan. 10 at 10 p.m. ET.
