Now that Vin Diesel has confirmed the Guardians of the Galaxy will appear in Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War, it’s time for fans to start pairing up their favorite members of the Guardians of the Galaxy and the Avengers for team-ups and throwdowns.

Guardians of the Galaxy star Chris Pratt is out promoting his latest film, The Magnificent Seven, and was asked which Avenger he’s most looking forward to interacting with as Star-Lord. Pratt was reluctant to answer at first, saying, “I don’t even know the right answer to that, because if I say the wrong thing, I’ll get in trouble by Marvel and by the fans.”

Pratt found a way around those fears by bringing up a character he’d like Star-Lord to meet who is most likely not going to be appearing in Avengers: Infinity War. “I would like Peter Quill to meet the Punisher,” Pratt said. “He’s not in the Avengers, but talking Marvel Cinematic Universe, I think it would be cool for Peter Quill, the Punisher was my favorite growing up, so I think it would be cool for me to meet him.”

There’s probably a very long way to go in the Marvel Cinematic Universe before Star-Lord meets the Punisher. Those involved with Marvel’s Netflix series have been asked repeatedly about whether any of the Defenders will appear in Avengers: infinity War. While the specific answers have varied, the story seems to be that, in theory, Marvel Studios could call on Netflix stars to appear in the film, but that they’ve shown no desire to do so.

That may be for the best. Sure, it would be fun to see Star-Lord and the Punisher in a back-to-back gunfight, but, between the Avengers and the Guardians of the Galaxy, Avengers: Infinity War is already going to be packed dense with character. There’s no point in adding members of the Defenders to the film if they’re not going to have any room to breathe.

Before the Marvel Cinematic Universe reaches Avengers: Infinity War, Chris Pratt will reprise his role as Star-Lord in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, opening May 5, 2017. Avengers: Infinity War will follow a year later, opening May 4, 2018.

After making his debut in Daredevil Season 2, The Punisher, played by Jon Bernthal, is getting his own Netflix TV series. Netflix has yet to announced a release window for The Punisher Season 1, but it likely won’t be until after the release of The Defenders.
