Magic has been around for centuries, but not many within the Marvel cinematic universe know of its existence. Stephen Strange is also relatively new to the powerful art form, and even a sorcerer supreme has to work out the kinks.
In the newest trailer for director Scott Derrickson and Benedict Cumberbatch's Doctor Strange, fans are given a few new glimpses of the power at Strange's command. Even with his advanced knowledge, magic can go awry, and often at the worst times. It would seem that in the midst of a battle with Mads Mikkelsen's Kaecilius would qualify as one of those times.
Strange doesn't just have offensive magic at his disposal, though, and aspects of his reality altering spells can also be seen in the newest TV spot. Fans recently had a chance to see some of this in person at a special preview screening, and ComicBook.com's Lucas Siegel described some of the footage he witnessed.
"The footage showed how the Masters of the Mystic Arts will bend the world, drawing cosmic energies from other dimensions and traveling through parallel universes. If that all sounds outrageous and trippy, that's because it precisely is. This is a Steve Ditko drug-fueled kaleidoscope daydream, a psychedelic explosion of imagination and wonder - and it is awesome for it. The moment the Ancient One tells Dr. Stephen Strange to open his eye, sending him careening through other dimensions, the world opens up in a spectacular way."
