Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 2. Tops $500 Million Worldwide
Marvel's anticipated Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 finally hit theaters last weekend, and fans have turned out in droves to see Star-Lord, Gamora, Baby Groot, and the rest of the ragtag team return to the big screen
Guardians Vol. 2 director James Gunn took to Facebook to announce an upcoming Q&A but wanted to also celebrate a big milestone. Gunn said "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 passed $500 MILLION WORLDWIDE at the box office yesterday, less than a week into the domestic release. So thank you to everyone who has gone to see it!" Vol. 2 opened domestically at over $146 million. That's a $52 million spike from what the original Guardians opened to back in 2015.
If you've seen the film already then you'll want to mark your calendar for Gunn's other announcement, a spoiler-filled Q&A. Gunn said First of all - this Sunday, May 14, I will be doing a FACEBOOK LIVE SPOILERY-INCLUSIVE Q&A at 1 pm PST (sorry this is so late in some countries). I'm waiting until then because it opens up in Japan this weekend, the last of the territories. So I won't be spoiling things for anyone who hasn't had the physical chance to see the movie. But, of course, if you haven't seen the movie, and don't want to be spoiled, don't watch!! This will be the first time I've answered spoilery questions from the fans."
He had one final note for the fans in Japan, saying "And, finally - for those of you in JAPAN - I love you guys, and hope you all go to see the movie this weekend! You guys have been amazing to me in my trips there and online, and I can't wait for you all to see the film. We Are Groot, James."
Maybe he'll finally reveal that easter egg from the original Guardians...yeah, probably not going to happen, but you can dream right?
Set to the backdrop of 'Awesome Mixtape #2,' Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 continues the team's adventures as they traverse the outer reaches of the cosmos. The Guardians must fight to keep their newfound family together as they unravel the mysteries of Peter Quill's true parentage. Old foes become new allies and fan-favorite characters from the classic comics will come to our heroes' aid as the Marvel cinematic universe continues to expand.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is written and directed by James Gunn (Slither). The film marks the return of the original Guardians, including Chris Pratt (Jurassic World) as Peter Quill/Star-Lord; Zoe Saldana (Star Trek Into Darkness) as Gamora; Dave Bautista (Spectre) as Drax; Vin Diesel (Furious 7) as the voice of Groot; Bradley Cooper (American Sniper) as the voice of Rocket; Michael Rooker (Jumper) as Yondu; Karen Gillan (The Big Short) as Nebula; and Sean Gunn (Gilmore Girls) as Kraglin. New cast members include Pom Klementieff (Oldboy), Elizabeth Debicki (The Great Gatsby, Everest), Chris Sullivan (The Knick, The Drop) and Kurt Russell (The Hateful Eight, The Thing).
