When it comes to film these days, it’s harder than ever to keep a movie’s magic secret. And, for franchises housed under Marvel Studios, the task can seem superhuman. Rumors are constantly swirling on the Internet about the company’s cinematic universe, and it was too long ago that an alleged MCU ‘leak’ hit sites like Reddit. The thread threaten films like Doctor Strange, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, and Thor: Ragnarok with supposed spoilers. But, apparently, James Gunn isn’t all that convinced the leak is spot-on.

The Guardians stuff is truly made-up bullshit other than stuff taken from things Iโve said & a half-lucky guess or 2 https://t.co/yMjDOmUFWb

The director took to Twitter earlier today to address a fan who’d asked about the purported information leak. Gunn said, “The Guardians stuff is truly made-up bulls**t other than stuff taken from things I’ve said & a half-lucky guess or 2.” So, clearly, the guy isn’t backing any of the leak’s quote-unquote spoilers. Scott Derrickson (Doctor Strange) also commented on MCU spoilers in general earlier today, tweeting out the following message:
A pretty good rule of thumb regarding Marvel news reports: if the news isn’t directly from Marvel, it’s inaccurate.

If you’re interested in seeing what the leaks have to say, then you can check them out on Reddit or 4chan. But fans should do so with a healthy sense of caution. While Gunn has gone out of his way to debunk the post, some of the leak might magically be rooted in some sort of reality. Of course, Marvel Studios has yet to comment on the alleged leak.
Of course, fans have already been given a fair share of information about Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 by Gunn himself. The director revealed plenty of information about the film’s secrets at San Diego Comic Con this year. It was there that one of the film’s biggest spoilers dropped as Marvel Studios announced the true identity of Star-Lord’s father. Played by Kurt Russel, Ego the Living Plant stirred up headlines after his character was confirmed to be the hero’s father, but some fans were vocal in their anger about the reveal. To address their concerns, Gunn took to Facebook and told fans why he felt the announcement shouldn’t qualify as spoiler.
“Knowing who Quill’s father is will not diminish your enjoyment of the film in any way,” Gunn said. “Ego [is] the emotional center of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 from the beginning to the end, and is not a twist. And believe me – there are many, many more surprises we still have in store for you from Vol. 2 – hopefully the biggest of which is how much you’ll love the movie itself.”
And, since then, the director has only dropped more spoilers like that Infinity Stones won’t take be featured in the Guardians sequel. For now, it’s probably best that fans lean on the director’s words and take all ‘leaks’ with a big grain of salt. With Doctor Strange set to hit theaters in just a few months, fans will soon find out whether these alleged spoilers have any merit or are as fictitious as Marvel’s own fantastical stories.
