James Gunn is very active on social media. The Guardians of the Galaxy director regularly interacts with fans, teases future films, and just discusses film or other topics. However, back in 2012, he said in a Facebook post that he would never put Taserface in a movie, calling him the dumbest character ever.

On Friday, during Marvel’s Hall H presentation at San Diego Comic Con, we learned that to be false. Taserface is in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Speaking to Gunn after the panel, we wondered, “Why the change of heart?” and Gunn couldn’t have had a better response to get us excited for the silly villain.
“When I first got Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1, I posted a picture of Taserface, the dumbest character of all time,” Gunn explains. “I posted a picture of him and I said, ‘This is gonna be the star of Guardians of the Galaxy!’ and people were laughing and making fun of him and I made this big joke and then I’m like, ‘No, no, I’m not really gonna do that.’ I think in this movie, we have the head of the Ravagers as a real dumbass. A very powerful guy. I decided he named himself and called himself Taserface.”
Taserface is hardly the only villain in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. He’ll have to compete with Elizabetha Debicki’s Ayesha role to see who can make things the hardest for Guardians when the film rolls around next year.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 hits theaters May 5, 2017.
