For X-Men comic book fans, Legion Chapter 6 dropped yet another big piece to the puzzle of just what kind of X-Men story Legion is telling – and an alternate preview for the next episode “Chapter 7” confirms it!

There is no more debate: Legion’s first story arc is about David Haller’s battle against the Shadow King!
Legion has taken a wonderfully slow-burn approach to the reveal that the Shadow King is actually the entity in David’s head known as The Devil With Yellow Eyes. As the season began, we were left questioning whether or not the entity was even real – or simply a figment of David’s imagining; then, it seemed as though it could be the manifestation of a classic “dark side” to the hero’s psyche. However, showrunner Noah Hawley (Fargo) has managed to take pull together both of those ideas – and a major piece of X-Men comic book canon – and mix them into an original, unexpected and trippy TV mystery.
Legion is free to break any and all rules, narratively and visually, while also nailing themes that resonate with mainstream viewers (identity, trauma, memory, etc…). Best yet: there seems to be more great X-Men comic-style action on the horizon, as David and the Summerland mutants battle the Shadow King (wonderfully played by Aubrey Plaza) on the Astral Plane.
Legion airs Wednesdays at 10 p.m. on FX.
