Actor Nathan Fillion has appeared in every one of director James Gunn‘s movies, including a minor cameo in the first Guardians Of The Galaxy. And the actor was going to have quick appearance in the latest movie as a popular Avenger from the comic books, but Gunn revealed they had to cut it from the final edit.

And though Fillion did not debut as Simon Williams AKA Wonder Man during the runtime of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, the actor won’t give up hope that he could appear as the character in the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

“I understand fans being disappointed, but I still had a good time,” Fillion said to the Toronto Sun. “Let’s hope something comes from that opportunity.”

The scene in question takes place when Ego’s flower-blob starts taking over planet Earth near Peter Quill’s hometown. Gunn revealed some pictures of movie posters at a theater hosting a “Simon Williams Film Festival,” featuring Fillion as the actor/superhero. In the MCU, Williams had starred in Conan-esque movie based on Akron of Weirdworld and a Jobs-like biopic about Tony Stark.

It wasn’t a full-fledged appearance, as he’d only appear in photographs and movie artwork, but it was Fillion being featured as a beloved Avenger all the same.

Unfortunately Gunn cut that sequence down to shave off the runtime, making Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 his first movie in which Fillion doesn’t show up.

But the actor’s words lend hope that he might one day appear as the character in the MCU. As long as fans keep clamoring for an appearance of the character to Kevin Feige, there’s always a possibility it can happen. โ€จโ€จ
