'Thor: Ragnarok' Cut a Crowd Favorite Scene Involving Hulk and Loki

Thor: Ragnarok contains many callbacks to other movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but there was one Hulk-centric callback to The Avengers that ended up on the cutting room floor.

Empire recently spoke with Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi about some of the secrets about the latest Marvel movie and according to Waititi, a hilarious reference to the Hulk punching Thor from the first Avengers movie had to be cut from the final version of the movie.

"They all land on the bridge -- Thor, Loki and then Hulk," Waititi said. "They stand for a second. Then Hulk just smashes Loki, punches him out of the frame -- just like in Avengers, when Hulk did it to Thor. It was a crowd favorite, but we just had to get rid of it for time."

Unfortunately, it wasn't just the Hulk-punches-Loki portion of scene on the Bifrost bridge that got cut from the movie in the name of the movie's runtime. The team lining up on the bridge didn't make it to the film either despite that scene being used in the film's marketing. And there were other scenes that didn't make it to the final cut as well. Waititi also revealed that the scene featuring Odin on Earth was cut and lead to the reshooting of the scene where Hela destroys Thor's hammer, Mjolnir. That scene had also been used extensively in trailers.

However, all hope for seeing Hulk punch Loki or even getting a look at Odin in New York isn't lost. While they may not have made it into the theatrical release, these scenes -- as well as an alternate post-credits scene -- may still have life when the film makes it to DVD and Blu-ray. Including them on as part of the special deleted scenes feature is something that Waititi himself suggests is a real possibility, at least for the Hulk and Loki callback scene.

"It might be on the DVD," Waititi said.
