Avengers: Secret Wars Theory Teases the MCU Repeating the End of Fox’s Best X-Men Movie

Marvel Studios repeats the ending of 20th Century Fox’s best X-Men movie in this convincing Avengers: Secret Wars theory that could change the shape of the Marvel Cinematic Universe forever. Scheduled to hit theaters on December 17, 2027, the Russo brothers’ Avengers: Secret Wars will be concluding the Multiverse Saga and promises to be Marvel Studios’ biggest movie yet. Inspired by Marvel Comics’ Secret Wars events from 1984 and 2015, Avengers: Secret Wars is expected to establish a new singular MCU timeline, which has already been attempted in Fox’s X-Men franchise.

A new theory posed on Reddit suggests that Avengers: Secret Wars could follow the blueprint of the end of 2014’s X-Men: Days of Future Past, which saw Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) change the timeline, but wake up with his memories intact. Given his prominent role in 2015’s Secret Wars in Marvel Comics, Reed Richards’ Mister Fantastic (Pedro Pascal) could remember the old MCU timeline when Avengers: Secret Wars establishes a new one. This would present some brilliant challenges for Richards in the MCU’s future, while pulling off the ending of Fox’s best X-Men movie even more successfully.

How Avengers: Secret Wars Could Change the MCU Forever

The Russo brothers have previously stated that Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars will be taking inspiration from both 1984’s and 2015’s Secret Wars events in Marvel Comics. The former saw the Beyonder bring heroes and villains from Earth 616 to Battleworld, where the cosmic being urged them to battle each other for his enjoyment. The latter saw incursions ravage the multiverse while the heroes of alternate realities sought to destroy others to save their own. Doctor Doom stole the Beyonders’ power and established himself as God Emperor on Battleworld, saving many variants, none of whom remembered their old lives.

If something similar to this takes place in the MCU, the entire franchise as we know it will change significantly. 2015’s Secret Wars ended after a battle between Doctor Doom and Mister Fantastic led to the multiverse’s reestablishment and a soft-reboot of the Marvel Universe into a single timeline. This could happen in the MCU, allowing variants from other worlds to permanently join the franchise, and explaining the introduction of the X-Men, integration of the Fantastic Four, and more. Avengers: Secret Wars is expected to soft-reboot the MCU, but Reed Richards might remember his former life.

The ending of X-Men: Days of Future Past was celebrated, but Fox didn’t follow through with the wild twist of dead characters returning after Wolverine’s intervention. The idea that Reed Richards could be the only character who remembers his life before Secret Wars and the events of the 2027 movie would present some intense conflict and challenges for him going forward, which Pedro Pascal would be expert at delivering. Avengers: Secret Wars will provide some insane and unexpected twists and turns, no doubt, so the Multiverse Saga will be ending much stronger than it began.
