DC Studios CEO James Gunn Reveals First Two People He Told About New Job

Earlier this week it was revealed that Warner Bros. Discovery has found their Kevin Feige type executive to lead their DC Film arm. It turns out that the studio went with The Suicide Squad director James Gunn and producer Peter Safran to head the newly minted DC Studios. Gunn had to sign an exclusivity waiver and can't work on any Marvel Studios projects anymore. Some fans seem to think that the director might have bad blood with Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige, but it's the exact opposite. When asked if he hates Feige and Marvel now, Gunn revealed that the Marvel boss was the first person he told about the job.

"Not only do I love Kevin, he was the 1st person I told after I did the deal with DC (@JohnCena was the 2nd),"Gunnwrote on Twitter. "Contrary to popular belief, a dollar less for Marvel is not a dollar more for DC. DC & Marvel have the common goal of keeping the theater-going experience vibrant & alive!"

Reports revealed that Safran didn't want to take on the job without the help of a creative mind like Gunn's, so the director coming along is just the icing on the cake. According to Deadline, Gunn and Safran will begin their tenure starting on November 1st, 2022, and their contracts will last for four years.

"The duo will report to Zaslav, but will also be in close correspondence with Warner Bros Film Group co-chairs and CEOs Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy on such matters as marketing, distribution and capital spend — just so everyone is on the same page," The trade wrote. "Gunn and Safran start effective November 1."

The most recently released DC Film to hit theaters was the Dwayne Johnson-led Black Adam. The actor recently revealed got the chance to talk with ComicBook.com while promoting his film, where he revealed that he thinks that Henry Cavill is the Superman of our generation.

"I will say this. I will say that Henry is a buddy and he is a phenomenal Superman," the actor says. "He is a phenomenal Superman and Henry Cavill is the Superman of our generation with respect to the other Supermans of the past. Every time I see him, we have some tequila and I say 'This guy is Superman.' My longtime business partner Dany Garcia has been a passionate advocate for Henry Cavill and his career for a very, very, very long time."

Black Adam will star Johnson and will also feature Aldis Hodge (Underground, The Invisible Man) as Hawkman, Noah Centineo (To All the Boys I Love Before, Charlie's Angels) as Atom Smasher, Quintessa Swindell (Trinkets, Euphoria) as Cyclone, Sarah Shahi (The L Word, Sex/Life) as Adrianna Tomaz, and Pierce Brosnan (GoldenEye, Mamma Mia!) as Doctor Fate. Uli Latukefu, Marwan Kenzari, Mohammed Amer, James Cusati-Moyer, and Bodhi Sabongui have also been cast.

The film is exclusively in theaters now!
