This weekend, the Fast and Furious films will forever change. After Furious 7 roared into theaters with a touching finale, the franchise’s eighth installment will debut this weekend with The Fate of the Furious. The new blockbuster will shift the films in a new direction, leaving behind its older run as it leads into a new trilogy. Stars like Vin Diesel have already teased fans about what they can expect from the high-octane series moving forward. And, now, one of the films’ key writers is chiming in on the new direction.
In an interview with Variety, Chris Morgan sat down to talk about the intricacies which went into making The Fate of the Furious. It was there that the writer was asked about future films, and Morgan said he’s been in talks with Diesel about the upcoming trilogy.

“I can’t speak about that specifically, but Vin and I have talked about all the story points and areas we’d like to get into. I have a crystal clear image of what the last scene of the franchise needs to be and we’re working to get there.”
Not long ago, Diesel stressed that the future of Fast and Furious would be in for a massive change. Speaking at CinemaCon, Diesel dropped the new about the franchise’s future, and our own Brandon Davis was there to report it:
“Somehow you manage to increase our audience,” Diesel said. “That makes us want to go to work. That gives us a certain pride in our work. I remember being here two years ago and talking about Furious 7 and for the first time telling you that there was going to be an F8: The Fate of the Furious.”
He recalls claiming 8 will be the best and stands by it. “As the world sees this movie, they’ll see how this is the beginning of the next trilogy.”
“There are characters who were brought in in Furious 7, like Kurt Russell, who were brought in specifically for this new trilogy.”
