The MCU Finally Gets Spider-Man & Wolverine Crossover It Deserves in Avengers: Secret Wars Fan Art

Spider-Man and Wolverine finally join forces in this brilliant fan art for one of the most highly-anticipated movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the Russo brothers’ upcoming Avengers: Secret Wars crossover. Spider-Man and Wolverine have been two of Marvel’s most beloved and notable superheroes for decades, but they’ve never been seen together on-screen. Marvel Studios has the perfect opportunity to rectify this in the MCU’s Phase 6, as many classic Marvel characters will be returning in Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars, and this could Wolverine and Spider-Man.

New fan art shared by @welove__marvel on Instagram brings together classic iterations of Wolverine and Spider-Man. Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine and Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man team up to fight in a wartorn New York City in this Avengers: Secret Wars art, and while neither Jackman nor Maguire have yet been revealed to be reprising their Marvel roles, these returns do seem very likely. This art shows what a partnership between Spider-Man and the X-Men could look like in Phase 6, setting up some exciting stories for the MCU’s future.

What Iconic Character Crossovers Will Happen in Avengers: Doomsday & Avengers: Secret Wars?

Tobey Maguire officially joined the MCU as Peter Parker’s Spider-Man from Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy in 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home, while Hugh Jackman made his MCU debut as clawed X-Men member Logan in 2024’s Deadpool & Wolverine. While they haven’t yet been confirmed to be coming back, the fact that so many other classic Marvel heroes will be returning creates the opportunity for many more crossovers to take place. Marvel Studios’ chair-laying cast announcement at the end of March revealed that Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, James Marsden, Rebecca Romijn, Kelsey Grammer, and Alan Cumming will be returning in Avengers: Doomsday.

With so many actors from 20th Century Fox’s X-Men franchise coming back into action, these mutant heroes and villains will be crossing over with the MCU’s established characters. We’ll also get the cast of the recent The Fantastic Four: First Steps crossing paths with the likes of Tenoch Huerta Mejía’s Namor and Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom, which will present some huge conflict and great moments for the MCU. It’s perhaps the partnerships of the rumored but unannounced characters that are the most exciting, however.

Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool teased his connection to Spider-Man in Deadpool & Wolverine, which could bring a version of the wall-crawler face-to-face with the Merc with a Mouth and even Wolverine. Both Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield have been rumored to be reprising their respective Spider-Man roles in Doomsday and Secret Wars, while Hugh Jackman’s recent workout videos have led some to speculate about his return to Wolverine. These heroes have partnered several times in Marvel Comics, so it’d be great to see them join forces on the big-screen.
