It’s finally official: Star Wars Rebels has a fourth season! The series will return in the fall to Disney XD, after its season 3 finale at the end of March. With a renewal comes a certain easing of the minds of Star Wars fans, who have been anxious as the countdown of episodes, down to four right now for the record, has ever reduced.

While there’s still plenty of speculation to be done about the remaining season three episodes, the news makes certain fans (see: us) start looking to the future. When Dave Filoni talked about season four with us a couple weeks ago, he told ComicBook.com that he hoped to finish Star Wars Rebels in a way that he didn’t get to with Star Wars: The Clone Wars, that is to say, finishing it at all.
With that knowledge in hand, and the way the show seems to be making some leaps toward the events of Rogue One and A New Hope lately, we’ll operate under the assumption that season four is the final one for the sake of this article; Look, we’ll gladly take more, but only if it’s Filoni and his team’s way. If this is the last season, these are five things we’d really like to see.
General Hera Syndulla
One of the coolest Easter Eggs inย Rogue One: A Star Wars Story was a single line of dialogue over an intercom, paging General Syndulla to another room. When it was confirmed that was referring to Hera, well, it just gave us something we wanted to see. Let’s see Hera earn her promotions into General on the show; even if sometimes it’s by making the hard decision no one else wants to, something she’s shown to be capable of doing.

Darth Vader’s Deadly Return
If anyone in the core cast of the Ghost crew has to die beforeย Star Wars Rebelsย comes to an end, well, they could at least go out in style, fighting the baddest of the bad. It’d be great to see Darth Vader return for one last go-around with the Rebels, and make his definitive statement that he is not to be trifled with.
For that matter, we’d love to see Thrawn make it out of Season 3 and continue to go after them. However, let’s keep the Emperor a mystery to this crew. He was really a character in the shadows of the Original Trilogy and hopefully he stays that way in this series.

Sabine, Bo-Katan, and Mandalore!
Dave Filoni teased that Sabine’s story was not done, and if they got a season four, they’d tell it: so look, we’re going to see Sabine again. But here’s what we need from that: We need the return of Bo-Katan. We need her to take up the Darksaber. We need full on insurrection on Mandalore and the liberation of that proud people. They’ve done such a good job building the Mandalorians into a living, breathing group, and we want more.

A Definitive End
There’s something to be said for leaving some stories and character arcs open, especially in a wider universe like the oneย Star Wars creators have been crafting for years. However, with the way this story has been focused on such a small core group, it would be nice to see them all get a true definitive end, at least to this chapter of their story. If that means “Hera goes on to continue to fight with the Rebel Alliance,” that’s fine as a “definitive” ending. If it means Kanan dies, or ascends to something beyond being a Jedi, or exiles himself, or goes off to explore the Unknown Regions because he finds out Thrawn is from out there – just give usย something.

The Battle of Scarif
Look, Dave Filoni teased that he’d like to get to the point where they could tell the Battle of Scarif, the climactic moment fromย Rogue One that weย know the Rebels crew, or at least the Ghost with Hera and Chopper, was a part of, from the point of view ofย Star Wars Rebels. Well, Dave, we want thatย too! It would be an awesome send off to the series, to bring it right into the events of the live action movies, and really cementย Rebels as an undeniable and beautiful part ofย Star Wars, something the show’s fans already know to be true.
