WARNING: MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD FOR THE SEASON 8 PREMIERE OF ARCHER!

Archer finally returned tonight, and the giant cliffhanger from the season seven finale was answered almost immediately.
If you recall, Archer was shot by Veronica at the end of last season, and it looked like he had actually been killed. This was hard to believe – considering he’s the star of the show – but it was still unclear what had actually happened to the title character.
As the season eight premiere began, it was revealed that Archer hasn’t recovered from the gunshot wound. In fact, the guy is currently stuck in a coma, and the Dreamland events this season are just occurring in his mind.
Unfortunately, this episode also revealed the fate of another major character – Woodhouse.
As the episode began, fans were thrown off when all of the characters were crying at a funeral. Some believed this to be Archer’s service, but a shot of the headstone revealed it was actually the funeral for his former servant.
Woodhouse hadn’t been around much over the past couple of years, so his death caught many off-guard. The character had been brought in an out of the series since season five, when voice actor George Coe passed away.
So, Woodhouse is finally laid to rest, but Archer has no idea. Well, the real Archer has no idea.
While in a coma, Archer is currently dreaming up a noir story in 1940s Los Angeles. Instead of a secret agent, Sterling is a private eye. The saga begins when his partner Woodhouse is killed, and he has to solve the murder.
Hopefully Dream-Archer can bring justice to the death of Woodhouse, so he’ll feel a little bit better about the real-life tragedy when he wakes up.
