Both DC franchises that Peacemaker is a part of dealt him a bad hand. In the DC Extended Universe, he’s in jail and joins Task Force X’s mission to Corto Maltese. The gig isn’t so bad until the team realizes that the United States government is part of an operation that experiments on children. Rick Flag is fed up with the lies and wants to expose everything, but Peacemaker gets in his way because a bombshell that big threatens peace. During the conflict, Flag dies, and Peacemaker is severely wounded, which forces him to return home and interact with his dad, who’s just the worst. Peacemaker kills his old man, too, allowing so much trauma to flood in.

Making the transition to the DC Universe doesn’t do Peacemaker any good because everything falls apart in the same way in his new home. The only major difference is that he now deals with not the Justice League but the Justice Gang, a team of heroes that want nothing to do with him. And just as Peacemaker‘s titular anti-hero is about to get over his embarrassment, his solo show throws a wrench in his plan that could ruin everything.
Peacemaker‘s Alternate Universe Might Not Even Be Real

Despite saving the world in Peacemaker Season 1, Christopher Smith can’t catch a break in his sophomore outing. The Justice Gang tells him to take a hike, and one of his closest friends, Emilia Harcourt, doesn’t see a future with him. All the losses push Chris to seek solace somewhere else, and one of the first places he looks is in his dad’s Quantum Unfolding Chamber. A door to another reality reveals itself, and after killing that world’s Peacemaker, Chris takes his place and begins to bond with his father and brother. What makes the universe even more enticing is that he and Harcourt have feelings for each other, opening the door for him to have everything he wants.
Meanwhile, back home. A.R.G.U.S. and its new director, Rick Flag, are plotting to bring Peacemaker down and need the Quantum Unfolding Chamber to do it. After narrowly escaping capture, Chris has Leota Adebayo pick him up in Season 2, Episode 4, and the two head to a remote location to move the door. Adebayo quickly gets up to speed on her friend’s adventures, and everything sounds too good to be true. Her only explanation is that the whole thing is a figment of Chris’ imagination, which is a possibility because he’s hallucinated things before. However, Adrian Chase’s help in disposing of his best friend’s doppleganger proves that there’s something beyond the door. It just might not be what it looks like.
A Familiar Face Could Be Behind Peacemaker’s Perfect Reality

The hottest theory on the Internet right now is that Peacemaker is vacationing in a reality where the Nazis won World War II. The evidence is there, as the group that he takes down in Episode 3, the Sons of Liberty, speaks about bringing down a tyrannical government, and Auggie Smith is somehow one of the world’s greatest heroes. But there’s enough smoke to at least consider the idea that the fire is fake and that the answer is more complicated. It could be that Adebayo is correct in saying the other universe isn’t real, but maybe Peacemaker isn’t the one in control of it. After all, the Quantum Unfolding Chamber is an important spot for many beings, including at least one that may have beef with Peacemaker.
Whenever Peacemaker enters the Quantum Unfolding Chamber, an alien walks out of a door and puts a dead rat in an incinerator, and he tries to exchange pleasantries. It never goes over well, so Peacemaker yells obscenities at the creature. Well, there are at least a few aliens in DC lore that are smart enough to mess with humans’ minds, such as the Dominators, who create a perfect world for the heroes of the Arrowverse in “Invasion!” and hold them captive. While Peacemaker’s rival doesn’t look like a Dominator, it’s not out of the realm of possibility that the alien is fed up and screwing around with the helmet-wearing anti-hero to get back at him.
Peaceaker is streaming on HBO Max.
