The Witcher Season 4 Will Finally Answer a Long-Running Mystery (With a Big Twist On The Books)

The Witcher is set to close out its Netflix run with Seasons 4 and 5, and fans are already getting some welcome details on both. That’s doubly true for Season 4, which will hopefully arrive later this year, and the latest revelation regarding the anticipated season is likely to be divisive. The new season will be based on Andrzej Sapkowski’s Baptism of Fire – the third Witcher novel, and one of the standout moments is set for a new take.

A new report from Redanian Intelligence has revealed that the upcoming season will include a musical sequence that is inspired by a beloved moment from the book. That moment will be a delightful scene where the group sits down and enjoys a brief respite from the chaos while cooking some fish soup, though this will then lead into a larger sequence of a much more musical nature than in the original. That’s thanks to a special flashback sequence dedicated to Jaskier’s history, in which everyone will be singing and dancing. Intriguingly, it’s said Valdo Marx also turns up in Jaskier’s past, and the report hints we’ll find out why they dislike each other so much.

In the book, Geralt, Regis, Cahir, Milva, and Jaskier all banter around a meal and have some spirited interactions, and according to the report, the show will extend this sequence quite a bit as it reveals additional backstories for the characters. Evidently, a good chunk of an entire episode is dedicated to this sequence, and that’s partly due to a flashback sequence. And within those flashbacks, we get what’s been termed Jaskier’s mini-musical. There have also been reports of younger versions of characters like Cahir and Milva showing up, and one would expect those characters to show up in these flashbacks.

The Witcher’s Musical Sequence Will Probably Be Divisive

Jaskier in The Witcher

If this is indeed a substantial part of the episode, it could end up being one of the breakout moments of the season, especially since Jaskier is already consistently a highlight of the show. Then again, musical sequences and themed episodes are often divisive, and the initial reactions to Redanian Intelligence’s post on X suggest more of a negative outlook.

There have been a host of changes made to sequences from the books, and reception has been split depending on the changes made. With this being a loved sequence from the books, you’ll likely have a host of fans excited to see that given some extra breathing room in the show. That said, having a mini musical in the middle of it could go either way with fans, and odds are you’ll either end up on one extreme or the other when the sequence finally airs. We’ll have to wait and see, but more times than not, I’ve learned never to bet against the world’s best bard (and yes, you can fight me on that).
