Shinsuke Nakamura made a name for himself in New Japan Pro Wrestling for over a decade and brought a sense of pageantry and fierceness to the sport that hadn’t been since the likes of Antonio Inoki. Since debuting in April at NXT: TakeOver Dallas, Nakamura has made more than an impact in NXT; he’s the meteor and the crater and has no proper rival currently in the brand.

Going for almost 30 minutes, the defending champion and the challenger–who had “Violin Jordan” himself Lee Englad Jr perform his entrance them live–brought out the best in one other with fierce hits and and submission attempts. There was a time where Samoa Joe had hit his patented Muscle Buster three times and looked to retain, but Nakamura’s strength resisted and had to bring Joe to his knees with more than one of his trademark knee strike, the Kinshasa.

This marks Nakamura’s first championship reign within the WWE umbrella and time will only tell when, not if, he takes up a few more championship reigns on his already legendary resume.

It should be noted that the referee threw up the dreaded X hand signal to signify a legitimate injury for Samoa Joe and he was escorted quickly up the ramp. No word yet on what injury he sustained, but should he be cleared, you can easily expect a killer rematch.
