The Summer 2026 anime season is finally here, and the one unexpected anime that’s making waves among fans is Crunchyroll’s Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia. Produced by the renowned animation studio Science SARU, this historical anime is based on an acclaimed manga series written and illustrated by Tomato Soup. Apart from this globally renowned Shonen Jump series, Dandadan, the studio is known for releasing several unique anime films and series ever since its establishment in 2013, including the latest Ghost in the Shell reboot. Every anime from the studio offers unique animation along with a captivating story, and this latest anime doesn’t disappoint at all.

Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia premiered with a one-hour special broadcast, which was broken into two episodes on the streaming service as viewers learn about Sitara, the protagonist of the story. The anime finally premiered its English dub on July 18th, 2026. While the story is taking shape in the initial episodes, the new main visual highlights the central characters. Before the premiere, only the first half was revealed, and now the official website has released the full version of the visual.
What Is Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia About?
Beneath the stellar and adorable animation style, the series is much more complex and nuanced as it tackles some dark themes of war and slavery. The story takes place in the 13th-century Mongol Empire, where a young girl named Sitara was driven away from her homeland after the death of her mother and ended up in a slave market.
She was eventually picked up by a family of scholars who encouraged her to learn everything she could. However, after spending several years with them, her life came crashing down when the Tus Militia fell at the hands of the Nomads. It didn’t take long for homes and lives to be destroyed by the Nomads, forcing Sitara away from her home once again. However, following the tragedy, Sitara’s destiny begins to change as the story follows her journey, where she later becomes known as the Witch of Mongolia for her advanced intellectual mastery of medicine and geometry.
Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia Is A Must-Watch For Anime Fans
The series has one of the most unique animation styles seen in the industry, as it perfectly does justice to the art style of the manga. Each scene has fluid movements, and the attention to detail in every frame is awe-inspiring. Thanks to Inu-Oh and Heike Monogatari, Science SARU is famous for blending historical settings with a hand-drawn aesthetic and fluid movements. The animation in the latest series surpasses even those acclaimed classics, and it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say it’s by far the best series from the studio.
Everything from the soundtrack to the character action is cinematic enough to portray the appeal of a beautifully crafted masterpiece. The gorgeous animation is to be expected considering that the anime has an impressive staff with several industry veterans contributing to this gorgeous project. Naoko Yamada, the director of the award-winning movie A Silent Voice, will be serving as the general director, while Abel Gongora is the anime director.
