The Naruto franchise is currently in the works on returning with new episodes in the near future, and the voice star behind Naruto Uzumaki himself has shared a surprising update on how these new episodes are coming along. Not long ago, Naruto officially celebrated the 20th anniversary of its original anime debut. But it came at a pretty inopportune time as Boruto: Naruto Next Generations was also in the midst of wrapping up its run. The weekly anime series reached a major cliffhanger, and has been leaving fans hanging from it ever since. But the wait to see what’s next might be over soon.

Both the Japanese and English voice stars for Naruto Uzumaki, Junko Takeuchi and Maile Flanagan respectively, attended a special panel at Nostalgia Con 2025 this past weekend (as reported by The Weeb in Texas), and the two stars opened up about their time with Naruto himself. When Takeuchi asked Flanagan about whether or not she knew that she would also be voicing Naruto as an adult, the conversation eventually led to the status of Boruto’s second part, which Takeuchi confirmed that work on the new anime has begun.
Boruto Part 2 Gets Major Update From Naruto Star

Flanagan asked Takeuchi about whether or not she has started work on the next half of Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, and Takeuchi confirmed this to be the case. Explaining that she has started on “Parts of it,” Takeuchi then joked to Flanagan that she was “in for a lot of work” with the second half of the anime. This is a good sign for the franchise as while it had confirmed that the Boruto anime would be returning for a second half someday, it wasn’t until recently that things really started to take shape for a comeback.
Earlier this year, Studio Pierrot (the studio behind Boruto‘s first part), listed that a second part of the anime was officially in the works on their website for a brief time before it was taken down. This was the first acknowledgment for the anime’s future since the first half of the series ended back in 2023, so this was a good sign of things to come. Now with Takeuchi mentioning that work on the new episodes is indeed is in progress, it’s also much closer to eventually making a premiere.
What’s Next for Naruto?

Boruto has yet to confirm a release date or window for Part 2 of its anime as of this time, and that also means it’s yet to be revealed whether or not the anime’s second half will also go on to adapt the time skip sequel, Boruto: Two Blue Vortex, that takes place shortly after where the first anime came to an end. But that’s also not the only major production that fans have been hoping to see in action yet as there’s still one project that has mysteriously gone missing.
Naruto is also working on a special 20th anniversary project with four new episodes telling yet another story about the original Team 7. Originally announced to be debuting in the Fall of 2023, this special project had been hit with an indefinite delay with no update on the anime’s future as of this time. It’s still likely in the works, but that’s even more of Naruto to keep an eye out for. For now, you can watch Boruto and Naruto now streaming with platforms like Hulu, Crunchyroll and more.
