2026 is going to have quite a few big comebacks in the anime world. In January alone, Jujutsu Kaisen, Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, Hell’s Paradise, Oshi no Ko, Fire Force, My Hero Academia: Vigilantes, and Trigun are all kicking off new seasons. Amongst the many returning anime dropping to kick off the new year, Ronin Warriors might be one of the biggest as the franchise is returning after decades out of the spotlight. With a new cast of characters taking on the title roles, a new trailer is highlighting the fact that this revival is planning to take a far more brutal approach to the “Samurai Troopers” than what many fans are used to with the series.

The latest trailer for the revival series, beginning on January 6th, highlights how punches aren’t being pulled this time around, or more specifically, sword slashes aren’t being held back. Thanks to Ronin Warriors being presented as “Saturday Morning fare” in North America, many Western fans might have thought that the upcoming reboot would focus on a younger audience. In this latest trailer, blood seems to be flowing fast with some major hits being delivered to the titular band of brawlers. Of course, the heroes are receiving said bloody blows from a new cast of villains coming their way.
Ronin Warriors’ Villains Revealed

The first Ronin Warriors series’ antagonists consisted of the villainous demon lord Talpa and his underlings known as the “Four Dark Warlords.” Said warlords consisted of Dais, Sekhmet, Cale, and Anubis, who represented Deception, Poison, Darkness, and Cruelty, respectively. In the sequel series, the new threat comes in the form of Ramaga and his “Ten Braves,” which are seemingly taking the role of Talpa and his soldiers this time around. While we have yet to dig into what the Braves represent in the same fashion as the warlords, several of the antagonists have been cast.
The new villains will consist of Nezu, Anayama, Unno, Kakei, and Mochizuki, voiced by some big players within the anime world. Nezu is voiced by Kenichi Suzumura (Gintama), Anayama is voiced by Chiharu Sawashiro (Dr. Stone), Unno is voiced by Ryota Takeuchi (Given), Kakei is voiced by Daichi Endo (My Hero Academia), and Mochizuki is voiced by Toshiki Kumagai (You Are Ms. Servant). In the original series, the warlords eventually came to turn against their master, joining forces with the Samurai Troopers to create a wild series finale, though we will most likely have to wait for some time to see if the revival does the same with its antagonists.
Ronin Warriors gained serious traction thanks to its arrival in North America in 1995, presented as a Saturday morning cartoon before it eventually made its way to Cartoon Network’s Toonami. While there were certainly some scenes that were edited to make it easier to present to younger audiences, those constraints are no longer a factor, and this latest trailer for the reboot proves it.
