Spy x Family Studio Shares Troubling Financial Report

Wit Studio has become a major mover and shaker in the anime world, with its resume delivering some of the biggest anime series in recent years. In the past, Wit has worked on the likes of Vinland Saga, Attack on Titan, Ranking of Kings, The Great Pretender, and more. Later this year, Wit will once again team up with CloverWorks to produce the return of the Forger family in Spy x Family season three. Unfortunately, despite their extensive resume, things have taken a turn for the worse for the production house, as documented in a recent financial report.

The recent financial report shows that as of the fiscal year ending in May 2025, Wit Studio saw an increase in sales of close to 4.5 Billion Yen (a little over $30 million USD), which is up 7.1 percent from the previous year. Unfortunately, this uptick didn’t make up for the “operating loss” of 150 million Yen (around $1 million USD) and an “overall loss” of 170 million Yen (around $1.15 million USD). In the previous year, Wit had seen a profit of 271 million yen in total (around $1.8 million USD), marking quite a difference year over year. So why is it that Wit Studio is seeing fewer returns this year? Perhaps the list of anime productions that hit the screen can give us a better idea of why this annual report has more dire news for the anime studio.

Wit’s Financial Troubles

Wit Studio has made a name for itself with some major anime projects, though some might agree that its recent efforts weren’t able to hit the same heights as Attack on Titan, Vinland Saga, and Spy x Family. The current list of anime properties that arrived from the studio throughout the period of this financial report includes True Samurai Legend Yaiba, The Demon Tower Master Who Became The Grand Duchess, Suicide Squad Isekai, Moonrise, and finally, Spring Summer Autumn Winter Agent: Spring Dance. Luckily, Wit does have some heavy hitters that are set to take the anime world by storm in the future.

This October, the third season of Spy x Family will arrive, bringing us some of the biggest storylines focusing on the Forger family to date. While this collab with CloverWorks is still one of the biggest things on Wit’s plate, there’s another major outing that has yet to reveal its release window. The One Piece was announced in 2024 and will be a remake of the series that sticks closer to the source material than the current anime adaptation from Toei Animation. Working in collaboration with Netflix, the Straw Hat Pirate series is sure to give Wit a significant boost, considering the popularity of the shonen franchise. Fingers crossed, we’ll see this remake arrive on the streaming service sooner rather than later.
