Amazing Spider-Man 3 Gets Writers, Marc Webb Still Not Confirmed to Direct

While Sony only "hopes" that Marc Webb can come back to direct The Amazing Spider-Man 3, writers Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci and Jeff Pinkner are the film's writers, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Producers Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach will return, as well. The trio, who scripted The Amazing Spider-Man 2, will take on a much-anticipated chapter of the Spider-Man series; the film will, according to Webb, feature the first appearance of Mary Jane Watson in the Amazing Spider-Man universe and also, according to cast members from the second film, likely feature The Sinister Six as the villains. In June, Sony staked out the dates for the third and fourth Amazing Spider-Man films, setting June 10, 2016, and May 4, 2018, as release dates and dashing expectations that Webb's films would comprise a trilogy. In addition to The Amazing Spider-Man 3, Kurtzman and Orci are working on Star Trek 3. They are also producing Universal's reboot of The Mummy franchise as well as an adaptation of the Joe Hill comic book Locke & Key.
