Not many people would have predicted that Wonder Woman would become the summer’s most profitable film at the box office, or that it would beat out Marvel Studios’ highly anticipated sequel to Guardians of the Galaxy.

But as Wonder Woman goes into its eighth weekend in movie theaters, it is on the cusp of passing Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 to become the top movie of the summer and the second-highest grossing movie of the year at the domestic box office.
Wonder Woman is likely to pull past Guardians Vol. 2‘s $387 million haul — the DC Comics-based film is currently at $381.5 million as of Monday, according to Deadline.
Only Beauty And The Beast has outperformed Wonder Woman at the domestic box office, pulling in an impressive $504 million in its theatrical run.

But Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 made more money abroad where it’s pulled in $472.7 million for a global cumulation of $859.4. Wonder Woman has made $385.3 million overseas for a $766.8 million total. The only movies to crack the $1 billion mark this year, however, are Beauty And The Beast and Fate Of The Furious.
Wonder Woman has had an amazing performance, becoming the second-highest grossing superhero origin story domestically after the first Spider-Man movie, which made $403.7 million.
All in all, it’s an impressive big screen splash for the Princess of the Amazons and a guarantee that we’ll see the character in her own feature film once again in the future.
