Game Boy Advance games just got better on Nintendo Switch Online, thanks to a new NSO update. Right now, via the Expansion Pack, there are over 20 different Game Boy Advance games available via Nintendo Switch Online for both Nintendo Switch users and Nintendo Switch 2 users. And while the focus lately has been on adding new N64 and GameCube games, it is actually the 2001 handheld that just got some love.

More specifically, Nintendo just released the Game Boy Advance – Nintendo Classics update 3.0.0. And in this update are a variety of new features and improvements. For example, there are now button remapping options for Game Boy Advance games, letting Nintendo Switch Online users change configurations around to their liking. If you have deja vu, it is because Nintendo did this exact thing with SNES games last month.
There’s More
Button remapping is the big new addition with this update, but it’s not the only thing new. In addition to this, when using handheld mode, Game Boy Advance games now run at 1080p. Previously, they ran at a lower resolution.
There are also some new secrets. When launching the app, if you hold the left analog stick in any direction, you will get the original GBA boot-up screen. This comes with the Super Mario Advance coin sound.
It looks like, at this point, all of the Nintendo Switch Online consoles will be getting this style of update. And this will presumably be the standard for all future consoles added. Speaking of new consoles, there’s word of both the Wii and DS being added. Included in this new information is also which will be added first. Right now, though, there is no word of any other platforms beyond the Wii and DS being added.
New Game Boy Advance Game
There was a new Game Boy Advance game added alongside this update, but only in Japan. The game is 2001 RPG Magical Vacation, which was never released outside of Japan, which is almost certainly why it is exclusive to the Japanese version of Nintendo Switch Online, as it has never been localized.
For those that do not know, these are the Game Boy Advance games currently available via Nintendo Switch Online: Super Mario Advance, Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros. 3, Mario Kart: Super Circuit, Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Microgame$!, Kuru Kuru Kururin, The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap, Metroid Fusion, F-Zero: Maximum Velocity, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past & Four Swords, Metroid: Zero Mission, Kirby & The Amazing Mirror, Fire Emblem, Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones, Wario Land 4, Yoshiโs Island: Super Mario Advance 3, Golden Sun, Golden Sun: The Lost Age, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team, F-Zero: GP Legendm, F-Zero Climax, Densetsu no Stafy, Densetsu no Stafy 2, and Densetsu no Stafy 3.
All of that said, and as always, feel free to leave a comment letting us know what you think. Will you be checking out any Game Boy Advance games on Nintendo Switch with these new improvements?
