The three Spider-Man games from Insomniac have been utterly brilliant, but they might’ve made one crucial mistake. Each one features, understandably, a plethora of villains. Any future games would have a hard time bringing any of them back, which means Insomniac will have to get a little creative. They’ve used so many iconic villains already: Doc Ock, Venom, Kraven, Mysterio, the Prowler, Tombstone, the Lizard, Sandman, Mister Negative, Vulture, Electro, Kingpin, and so many others. Fortunately, Spider-Man has tons of other villains yet to make it, although the list is admittedly pretty small. Still, there are 10 solid options for Spider-Man 3 or any other games they have planned for the future.

10. Green Goblin

It’s a bit of a surprise that Green Goblin hasn’t been featured in any game yet, despite Norman Osborn’s presence. However, it seems like the ending to Spider-Man 2 is clearly setting up the most iconic Spider-Man villain to make an appearance. With Goblin’s glider, Spider-Man 3 could implement some aerial combat that the series hasn’t yet seen, and Norman’s turn could hit a lot harder after so many games with him as a regular, if not suspicious, character.
9. New Goblin

It would be pretty hilarious if the third game in a Spider-Man series pulled off the villain that the third movie in the original movie trilogy couldn’t. New Goblin was pretty awful in Spider-Man 3 from Sam Raimi, but it could work really well here. Harry is clearly dying, but what if the goblin serum could save him? It’s very possible that Norman would try it, as he used Venom to try and save his son from a degenerative illness. In doing so, however, he creates another menacing villain. It would be narratively interesting, too, to see Peter deal with having to fight his best friend again after saving him the first time. Maybe Harry won’t give Peter the option to save him this time.
8. Hydro Man

Hydro Man would be better served as a side villain rather than a game’s main villain, but if Insomniac has proven anything so far, it’s that they love some side villains. Hydro Man is a really old villain for Spider-Man and a bit of an iconic one, despite not being all that prominent. It would be a fun nod to the comics and give the game a different sort of villain with powers that might actually lead to some mechanical changes or suit upgrades for Spidey.
7. The Chameleon

Like Norman Osborn’s turn to Green Goblin, Spider-Man 3 is perfectly set up to include the Chameleon. The end of the second game revealed that the Chameleon was Kraven’s half-brother, and Kraven is now dead. The Chameleon is definitely out for revenge, but he also provides an avenue to revisit old villains. Kraven killed so many bad guys, so this is one way to “resurrect them.” And, it would provide some really interesting character beats for Peter to have to face off with old foes he thought were gone, especially those he has any sort of connection to.
6. The Spot

The Spot could be a really interesting villain for a third Spider-Man game from Insomniac. His multiversal powers could be a good way for the developers to use some of the things they had planned for the scrapped Spider-Verse game. It could involve sending Peter into different New Yorks, which would be another way for him to see old villains he thought were gone, adding immense emotional weight to the story. Plus, neither Peter nor Miles Morales has yet to really fight someone who presents such an existential threat.
5. Morbius

Morbius isn’t just an awful movie starring Jared Leto, but instead a pretty fascinating character that Spider-Man interacts with. He’s a tragic villain, mostly only doing what he has to in order to survive his new vampiric state. That sort of clash has always been interesting in comics and other media for Spider-Man, so exploring it in the game would be amazing. Plus, it might give them an opportunity to introduce Blade, who is getting his own game at some point, and explore having other Marvel heroes. If it works well, then Insomniac could further branch out beyond Spider-Man and the upcoming Wolverine game.
4. Hobgoblin

As iconic as the Green Goblin is, he is perhaps not even the scariest goblin-themed villain that Spider-Man has had to face off with. And maybe Insomniac could just do a full Goblin game, with the Green Goblin, New Goblin, and Hobgoblin all being villains. Hobgoblin has often been directly inspired by the Green Goblin, so it would make a ton of sense for them to both occupy the story. It would also be fun for Spider-Man to think he was just seeing another Osborn in a suit instead of whoever Insomniac decides to put under the mask. For a satisfying twist, it could be one of the side characters from the original games.
3. Riot

The introduction of Venom means that symbiotes exist in this universe, and that they’re probably present on Earth. That opens the door to so many possibilities for villains in a future Spider-Man game. Riot is a much worse symbiote than Venom is, so he could pose even more of a threat. Often tied to the Life Foundation, this could be a good way to bring Venom back and establish him as an anti-hero to spin off into the rumored game he was thought to get after Spider-Man 2.
2. Carnage

With symbiotes possible, Carnage makes the most sense, however. It really seemed like Insomniac was planning to introduce some DLC for Carnage, as Cletus Kasady was The Flame in Spider-Man 2 and is clearly poised to become Carnage as part of his cult activity. It was a really great spin on his origin, and it would be a shame if the character didn’t get a chance to shine. Much more brutal than Venom, Carnage would be a really difficult foe for Spider-Man to battle without letting New York get utterly destroyed.
1. Morlun

Morlun is one of the lesser-known Marvel villains who interacts with Spider-Man, but he might be the most dangerous. Morlun is a vampiric being who hops around the multiverse to devour “totems,” which are animal-themed superheroes. Primarily, he devours different versions of Spider-Man. Morlun could be a really thrilling adversary, especially in a game with The Spot that opens doors from our New York into others, perhaps where Morlun has already been feeding.
