The Pokemon Trading Card Game is getting a special fifth expansion later this year. The Pokemon fan site PokeBeach is reporting that the mini-expansion "Shining Legends" will be released in October in the United States. This new set will feature the first "Shining" Pokemon cards published in nearly 15 years.

Usually, the Pokemon Trading Card Game only gets four expansions a year. However, "Shining Legends" will be a special set released exclusively in special boxed collections released every few months. Basically, this means that fans will have to buy more expensive boxes, which contain multiple booster packs, a promo card, and a pin, instead of individual booster backs.

As its name suggests, Shining Legends is loaded with tons of Legendary and Mythical Pokemon Cards. The set will include Shining Mew, Shining Celebi, Mewtwo-GX, Entei-GX, Latios, Shining Jirachi, Zekrom, Keldeo, and Shining Volcanion. The card set will also have the first Bulbasaur card released in over five years.

"Shining Legends" is also unusual in that it's the first time in 20 years that the Pokemon Company has released an expansion in the US and Japan under the same name. Typically, expansions are renamed when released overseas.

This isn't the first time in recent history that the Pokemon Trading Card Game has released a special expansion. Last year, the Pokemon Company released a special "Generations" set that could only be purchased via special "Mythical Collection" boxes that came out monthly. We're guessing that those Mythical Collections were a big success, which led to the release of the "Shining Legends" set.

We'll have more on Shining Legends as the expansion's release date approaches.
