Z-Moves are a new type of game mechanic in the Pokemon franchise. When a trainer uses a special Z-Ring bracelet, they can unlock a Pokemon’s potential to use a Z-Move, a supercharged attack or move that can only be used once per battle. Any Pokemon can use Z-Moves, but certain Pokemon have special Z-Moves that are unique to their species.
The siterunner for the popular Pokemon merchandise site PokeShopper recently posted a picture of an ad for TOMY’s upcoming Z-Ring toy, which shows a boy wearing the bracelet-like accessory, while various Z-Crystals appear in the background. Although most the Z-Crystals could be identified easily, there was one crystal that we haven’t seen before.
You can see it below circled in red:
The siterunner of PokeShopper pointed out that the US version of the Z-Crystal ring comes with a Mimikyu figurine. When he zoomed in on the Z-Crystal in a subsequent tweet, it quickly became obvious that the crystal’s markings represented Mimikyu’s glowing eyes and shadowy claws:

Mimikyu’s Z-Move
For those who aren’t super familiar with some of the newer Pokemon, Mimikyu is a unique Ghost/Fairy-type Pokemon that wears a shabby-looking Pikachu costume. In the games, Mimikyu wears the costumes because it desires to be loved as much as Pikachu,ย whose popularity is evident even in the Pokemon world, it seems. However, the anime version of Mimikyu wears the costume to remind itself of how much it hates Pikachu and wants to defeat it in battle.
Mimikyu’s true shape and form is a mystery, as it wears its costume out in public. The only hint of its true form are the shadowy claws that occasionally peek out from underneath its costume.ย
Eagle-eyed Pokemon fans have speculated that Mimikyu would get a new Z-Move since Nintendo released Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon‘s first trailer back in June. That trailer briefly showed Mimikyu’s body floating into the air before two ribbon-like claws shot out from under its costume and its real eyes glowed red. However, the new ad appears to be even stronger proof that Mimikyu is getting a new Z-Move in the game.
We’ll probably find out more about Mimikyu’s strange new abilities when Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon comes out in November.
