Fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe love sleuthing around each installment when it hits theaters. When Doctor Strange premiered, fans were quick to pick up on plenty of references, and fans began wondering if Doctor Strange included a rather trippy Ant-Man nod. Now, the director of the Marvel's latest film has spoken, and it turns out Doctor Strange was glad to feature one of Ant-Man's more mind-bending locales.
Recently, Scott Derrickson's director commentary for Doctor Strange debuted and featured plenty of insights into the blockbuster. It is in the recording that Derrickson addresses the supposed Ant-Man reference and confirms it was very much intentional.
Of course, the scene in question will be a familiar one to fans. In Doctor Strange, fans watched as Stephen Strange had his third-eye unlocked by the Ancient One. The trip sees the character enter a variety of explosive dimensions, and one of them very closely resembled the Quantum Realm from Ant-Man.
"This image here is obviously a nod to Ant-Man and the Quantum Realm, acknowledging that as one of the mysterious realms of existence," Derrickson confirmed.
For those of you who don't remember, the Quantum Realm is a terrifying place first seen in Ant-Man. Scott Lang entered the mysterious dimensions when he shrunk himself to defeat Darren Cross. The hero had to shrink himself down to a microscopic level, forcing him to abandon his normal body for one that could be transported to the Quantum Realm. Luckily, Lang was able to get himself out of the dimension before he followed after Janet Van Dyke who became trapped there.
Doctor Strange is now out on digital HD and will be released on Blu-Ray February 28.
