In the wake of a war with the Inhumans, the Merry Mutants will return to prominence in the Marvel Universe as the ResurreXion event will give way to two new flagship series, X-Men Blue and X-Men Gold.

Veteran comic creator—and co-creator of the CW’s hit series Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow—Marc Guggenheim has been tapped to guide the adventures for X-Men Gold, a “classic” team made up of characters such as Storm, Colossus, Nightcrawler, and team leader Kitty Pryde.
Guggenheim recently spoke with Newsarama about the comic drawn by Adrian Syaf, whose style harkens to the classic X-Men days when action was equally as important as melodrama.
With that in mind, Guggenheim said, “a lot is that the best X-Men books, the classic X-Men books, are the ones where there’s a certain amount of superheroics and action, but the books really live in the ‘soap opera’ elements.”
This back-to-basics approach applies to the team’s membership—which also includes a Grey (Rachel) and a Wolverine (Old Man Logan)—as well as their villains. The first arc will bring back the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants.
“We’re going to introduce new incarnations of Pyro and Avalanche,” Guggenheim revealed. “Longtime readers of the X-Men know that both of those characters are dead, but [series editor] Daniel Ketchum and I have great affection for those characters, those powersets and those particular threats. So we’ve got a new Avalanche and a new Pyro coming our way.”
X-Men Gold marks the title’s bimonthly debut, with issues #1 and #2 both scheduled for release in April. Check with your LCS or find the titles online.
