Fantastic Four’s Digital Release Confirmed as First Steps Nears 1 Final MCU Box Office Scalp

As its run in theaters wraps up, The Fantastic Four: First Steps will soon be available to watch at home. Having been teased as far back as San Diego Comic-Con 2019, Marvel’s First Family finally joined the MCU in July 2025. A lot was riding on their debut, with roles for its main cast already confirmed for Avengers: Doomsday, and a need to prove that, after several disappointing attempts, it was possible to get these characters right on the big screen. With over $500 million at the box office, and a Rotten Tomatoes score of 87% (and an even better 91% with audiences), it’s largely achieved that.

After taking on the big screen, The Fantastic Four: First Steps will now tackle the small one, as it’s been confirmed that the movie will be released to purchase on digital platforms on September 23rd, 2025. That’s almost exactly two months after it hit theaters, a similar timeframe to 2025’s other MCU movies, Captain America: Brave New World and Thunderbolts*. It comes as First Steps still has the chance to overtake one more Marvel movie at the box office: per Box Office Mojo, its worldwide total stands at $518,827,523, just a few hundred thousand dollars behind 2015’s Ant-Man, which is on $519,311,965.

Was Fantastic Four: First Steps A Box Office Hit For Marvel?

Assuming The Fantastic Four: First Steps overtakes Ant-Man, that will leave it as the 26th highest-grossing MCU movie, out of 37 total. It’s a long way behind the next placed film, Iron Man, on just a shade over $585m, with no chance of overtaking it. That’s not the kind of splash that might’ve once been expected for a major new team debuting in the MCU, especially with a star in Pedro Pascal leading the way, but it’s by no means a bad performance either.

The movie’s budget was reportedly north of $200 million, meaning First Steps likely needed to make around $450-500m to break even, something it has at least achieved, even if it may not have made a huge profit. But it’s also solid in terms of context for where the MCU is at right now: the Fantastic Four movie is comfortably Marvel’s highest-grossing movie of 2025, ahead of Brave New World ($415m) and Thunderbolts* ($382m). It could’ve been better, absolutely, though released in a packed summer slate just a few weeks after James Gunn’s Superman, but it also could’ve been much worse.

When Will Fantastic Four: First Steps Release on Disney+?

A VoD release will be exciting for those who can’t wait to watch The Fantastic Four: First Steps again, and for anybody who wasn’t able to see it in theaters, but an even bigger deal will be when the movie comes to Disney+. No release date has been announced yet, but it probably won’t be too far away. Captain America: Brave New World hit the streaming service six weeks after it was made available on digital, and it was eight weeks for Thunderbolts*. Both releases were on a Wednesday, which suggests that First Steps will hit Disney+ on either November 5th, 12th, or 19th, though it may depend on its VoD performance. Either way, fans will be able to watch the movie at home very soon.
