The arrival of John Wick in 2014 fundamentally changed the landscape of the action genre. Everything is trying to take at least one element from what John Wick did, whether it be an attempt to generate the same kind of mysterious world building or working to create that sleek-but-bone-crunching action that we’ve all come to love. Very few titles have been able to succeed in either regard, especially since John Wick did it all so flawlessly. However, there is one recent release that accomplished the mission better than most, taking some Wick-style action and pairing it with wildly dark comedy.

That film is Fight or Flight, which stars Josh Hartnett as a drunken former operative who finds himself suck on a plane filled with people trying to kill both him and a target he’s been tasked with protecting. Fight or Flight has better action than the majority of non-John Wick titles you’ll see these days and it’s absolutely worth your time. Fortunately, the movie is about to get a lot easier to stream, thanks to Paramount+.
On Monday morning it was revealed that Fight or Flight is finally set to make its streaming debut. After stints in theaters and on video on-demand platforms, Fight or Flight will hit the Paramount+ lineup on October 1st.
The one caveat here is the movie will be available on the Paramount+ Premium Plan, which is the one that comes without ads. If you don’t have a subscription to Paramount+ but want to take advantage of the current deal ($60 for a full year of Premium), you can sign up here.
Is Fight or Flight the Next Great Action Franchise?
Unlike John Wick, Fight or Flight didn’t get the enormous boost in popularity out of the gate. It had an under-the-radar debut, with very little advertising ahead of its theatrical debut. With fewer showings nationwide, not a lot of advertising, and an on-demand premiere right around the theatrical release, Fight or Flight only made around $4.2 million at the box office. However, the reviews from critics and reactions from fans have been stellar, so might be some real potential for more movies if the VOD and streaming numbers deliver.
This is a possibility the creative team behind Fight or Flight certainly planned for, as the film’s ending opens up the world in a few different ways. No spoilers here, but the final minutes make it clear that there are a ton of other stories that can be told with these Fight or Flight characters. Whether or not we will get to depends on the film’s ongoing popularity.
Katee Sackhoff, who plays one of the most pivotal characters in Fight or Flight, spoke with ComicBook ahead of the film’s initial release and shared her hopes for a potential sequel. She noted that her character, who was notably on the sidelines for most of the actual action, has fallen into a lot of problems that now need to be resolved.
I feel like she’s having a mental fight the entire movie, so I feel like the stakes are just as high in Katherine’s head for the whole flight, if you will,” Sackhoff explained “But you never know what’s going to happen. Sequels happen every day.”
“There’s so much. This movie ends and it is ripe for a franchise,” she added. “And Katherine has so much more inside of her that we need to understand. I think we need to understand her past. I think we need to understand Lucas’ past with her.”
Given the box office performance, a Fight or Flight sequel is far from guaranteed, but it could certainly happen if the film gains a strong following. A lot of that could depend on how it performs when it lands on Paramount+.
