Prime Video Subscribers Only Have a Week Left to Watch DC’s Forgotten Justice League Series

There’s only one week left for Amazon Prime Video subscribers to catch up on the first three seasons of this iconic animated DC series that starred the Justice League in one of their first on-screen appearances. Long before the development of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s new DC Universe, characters from DC Comics showed up in a wide variety of animated movies and TV shows. This included the core members of the Justice League team, such as Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, and more, who starred in a forgotten animated series that you can still stream online โ€“ for now.

Between 1973 and 1985, nine seasons of Super Friends was released on ABC as a Saturday morning cartoon, introducing young audiences to a whole host of iconic DC Comics heroes, primarily comprising the Justice League. You can currently watch the first three seasons of Super Friends on Prime Video in the United States, but these seasons will be leaving the streaming service at the end of September 2025. This gives you just a short time to catch up on almost 50 episodes of the Justice League’s adventures.

Why You Should Watch DC’s Super Friends Before It Leaves Prime Video

In the five decades since its release, DC’s Super Friends has been lauded as one of the greatest animated TV shows of all time. The series introduced young audiences to the adventures of DC Comics, which fostered an entire generation of DC fans back in the ’70s. It’s a shame that the rest of Super Friends isn’t available on Prime Video, but the fact that you can still โ€“ for a short while โ€“ stream the first three seasons is good news for any DC fan. The series delivers similar vibes to X-Men: The Animated Series and Spider-Man: The Animated Series.

Both these shows have recently been gifted brilliantly-done revivals or pseudo-revivals under the Marvel Studios Animation umbrella. Since DC Studios has already produced a successful animated series in the form of Creature Commandos, it would be fantastic to see Super Friends revived, too. This could introduce a rotating cast of Justice League heroes to the DCU, as the group’s line-up changed in each new season of Super Friends, though the likes of Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, and Aquaman were constant fixtures. There is a lot to love about Super Friends’ colorful and vibrant storytelling, so it’s well worth a watch.

Why Is Super Friends Leaving Prime Video Now?

There’s been no confirmation as to whether Super Friends will be making the move to a different streaming service after leaving Prime Video at the end of this month. However, with HBO Max being cemented as the home of DC Studios’ TV shows, it wouldn’t be all too surprising to see some classic animated series hit the streamer, too. This could include Super Friends, which might join the DCU’s new projects after leaving Prime. Super Friends joining HBO Max would introduce even more audiences to the classic animated series, and perhaps ignite interest in a revival series.
