South Park Finally Takes on Labubus With New Episode First Look

South Park is returning for a brand new episode this week, and the first look at what’s coming next is teasing that the animated series is finally taking on the Labubu collectible trend. South Park kicked off its highly anticipated return for Season 27 of the series earlier this Summer, and aired one of the highest rated episodes in the series’ history. But it’s been a rocky road since that premiere as the new release schedule for the season has instead been broken up into bi-weekly premieres, and thus fans have had to wait more time in between each new episode.

South Park Season 27 will be returning for Episode 4 on Wednesday, September 3rd as part of this new bi-weekly schedule, and we’ve finally gotten the first look at what’s coming. Teasing that the Labubu collectible will be taking the center stage of one of the big conflicts, you can check out the teaser trailer for South Park’s next new episode below as shared by the series ahead of its premiere with Comedy Central and Paramount+ this week.

South Park Season 27 Episode 4 Teases Labubus

South Park Season 27 Episode 4 will be airing with Comedy Central on Wednesday, September 3rd on 10PM ET, and will then be available streaming with Paramount+ exclusively the next day. The episode is titled “Wok Is Dead,” and teases that it will about, “Butters experiences the reality of tariffs when he has to buy a Labubu doll for his girlfriendโ€™s birthday.” As seen by this first look teaser trailer, it’s clear that the trend has gotten to such a popularity that it’s causing fights in school. Which seems par for the course for the people of South Park and how they react to trends in particular.

The Labubu collectible has seemingly gotten popular out of nowhere in just the last year. Originally conceived by illustrator Kasing Lung, the plush collectibles had been sold in Pop Mart stores across Asia, but have really exploded in popularity thanks to social media where videos opening its blind box releases (where creators are hoping to get a particular plush) have sparked a whole new wave of collectibles that buyers are seeking out by any means necessary. Now we’ll see what South Park has to say about it, and how it ties into the tariffs in the United States are increasing production costs along with other major events seen in the season thus far.

What’s Next for South Park This Season?

South Park Season 27 has largely been focusing on major events with each of its episodes thus far, but they have been also seemingly building towards a season long story that creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker are telling. The show has entered a new status quo with South Park itself being impacted by huge changes in the United States, and each of the characters are themselves changing in the wake of everything that has been happening to the world.

The most recent episode made one of the series’ biggest changes of the last decade as Randy Marsh officially sold off Tegridy Farms, and it was teased that the Marsh family would be returning to their previous home in future episodes. We’ve still yet to see what’s to come of this fallout, but it’s likely this next episode will begin taking those first small steps towards building a new look for the series’ future.
