The highly anticipated anime sequel to Solo Leveling is still a few months away. After adapting the fan-favorite Jeju Island in Season 2 last year, the anime went silent on the series for over a year. A new report claims the next season is expected to drop in 2027 or 2028, which is considerably longer than fans expected. The story takes a drastic turn after the true extent of Jinwoo’s powers is witnessed by the entire world. While his journey is put on hold, the franchise is getting ready for its live-action release. It was announced in July last year as a collaborative project by Netflix and Kakao Entertainment. Since the filming began in May 2026, the series will take at least a few months to reveal its first look and teaser.

Byeon Woo-seok, known for several renowned K-dramas such as Perfect Crown and Lovely Runner, is starring as Sung Jinwoo. Additionally, @wooseokfiles on X shared a report by a Korean source stating Cha Woo-min has also joined the cast of the live-action. While his role hasn’t been officially announced, rumors suggest he will be playing the role of Baruka, the leader of the Ice Elves and the dungeon boss of the Red Gate Arc. Baruka came face-to-face with Jinwoo in the Red Gate Arc, which was adapted in the second season of the anime.
What’s Next For The Solo Leveling Franchise?
Apart from the anime delay, Solo Leveling: Ragnarok, the spin-off manhwa series written by Daul Do and illustrated by JIN, went on an indefinite hiatus in January this year. The hiatus was due to the artist’s enlistment in the mandatory military service, which typically lasts for eighteen to twenty-one months. This means that the manhwa will be on hiatus for about two years. However, while the franchise has yet to return with new anime or manhwa, the official X handle of Solo Leveling: Karma confirms an interesting update for July. Anime Expo is being held from July 2nd to July 5th, and A-1 Pictures will be holding its panel on the second day of the convention.
A-1 Pictures, the animation studio behind Solo Leveling, so fans can expect new updates on all the upcoming shows and projects. However, Solo Leveling fans will have another thing to look forward to during the event, as the upcoming action RPG developed by Netmarble will also share major updates on the project. Solo Leveling: Karma was an upcoming game that was announced during Anime Expo in July last year, and it was confirmed to focus on an entirely new storyline.
It will exclusively expand the Monarchs’ War Arc, one of the best arcs in the story. It will follow the 27 years of Jinwoo’s journey when he travels back in time to save countless lives that were lost due to the appearance of the gates. Along with his shadows, he fought against all the Monarchs in order to ensure that the gates wouldn’t appear in the current timeline.
