Life is Strange took a lot of folks by surprise back in 2015, and since then fans have been eager for developer Dontnod Entertainment to announce another story-driven adventure game. Life is Strange: Before the Storm, a prequel to the original game, is in the works, but it's being developed by a new studio. Dontnod has also announced Vampyr, but that's more of an action-RPG, not a narrative adventure.
Well, good news Life is Strange fans – Bandai Namco have announced they're teaming with Dontnod for a new narrative adventure. We don't know much about the new IP yet, but Bandai Namco says it takes place a small US city, and feature a "fair dose of investigation." They also provided this first screenshot.
Seems like Dontnod aren't straying too far from what they did with Life is Strange. Bandai Namco spoke a bit about their decision to partner with Dontnod and their hopes for the project:
"We want new IPs to make up 50 per cent of our business, and we're achieving this by developing long-term partnerships with a few studios. The first visible part of this was Little Nightmares, and we've been extremely happy with that game, but this is only the start of something. Now we're very happy to partner with Dontnod.
Obviously, with a studio like Dontnod, you can expect triple-A quality. You can expect a very emotional experience, and this is what we were looking for, like with some kind of investigation and going deep into the psychology of the characters, and giving emotion to the player. This is what we're aiming for with this partnership."
It's nice to see Bandai Namco branching out (one can't live on Dragon Ball and Tekken alone) and I'm eager to see whatever Dontnod cooks up next! More details about the project will be announced in 2018.
