Ubisoft Confirms Plans for New Rayman Game

Ubisoft has confirmed that its Montpellier and Milan studios are working on a new project related to the Rayman franchise. The company stated that the project is currently not ready to be fully revealed, which indicates that work on the game is still relatively early. Rayman Legends was the last significant entry in the series, and it was released all the way back in 2013. That’s nearing 13 years since the franchise got a new game, which is a large amount of time for such a famous series to be idle. Legends was notable at the time due to its platforming design and unique art style that fans enjoyed. Beyond that, though, the franchise has been largely dormant save for a limited appearance of Rayman in Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope as DLC.

So, what exactly is Ubisoft planning this time around? Well, for now, the company has not confirmed whether the project will be a remake of a past Rayman game or something completely new. There are several options on the table as Ubisoft could revisit its classic 2013 hit for a modern makeover, or it could build a brand adventure that charts new heights for the limbless hero.

According to a new report from Insider Gaming, this Rayman remake is codenamed “Steambot” and is said to be targeting a launch in late 2026. Beyond this, Ubisoft is also looking to develop Rayman 4, which would seemingly be a 3D platformer that takes place after the events of 2003’s Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc. However, the decision to work on Rayman 4 would first hinge on the success of the impending remake. As such, if Rayman 4 does eventually see the light of day, it won’t come about for many more years.

The decision to revisit Rayman follows a period where Ubisoft has reassessed several of its older intellectual properties. With games in the platforming genre continuing to hold steady in the market, the company appears to be positioning Rayman for renewed consideration. However, without concrete information on the scope or form the project is to take, its future remains uncertain.

No details have been provided regarding platforms or a release schedule. Ubisoft stressed in this new video that fans shouldn’t expect to hear official news on the new title anytime soon. This confirmation establishes only that Rayman is back in active development at two of Ubisoftโ€™s European studios. What shape he and his game will take is unknown.

For now, the future of the franchise is wide open. There are many directions it can go, and while it remains a mystery what form the heroโ€™s comeback will ultimately take, one thing is clear. After more than a decade in the shadows, Ubisoft is making sure Rayman will see the light of day again in his own title. Rayman is officially returning, and that alone is enough to get the fanbase buzzing with excitement.
