There are many reasons to be excited for Pokemon Legends: Z-A. After all, it’s been an unusually long time since our last main series Pokemon release. While Legends Z-A isn’t a new gen, it’s still closer to that classic Pokemon game feeling than spinoffs like Pokemon Friends. Given that its a return to the Kalos region, Legends Z-A isn’t likely to give us brand-new Pokemon like we can expect from Gen 10. However, we are getting an influx of new Mega Evolutions. And The Pokemon Company has been slowly giving players a look at some of those new designs, with mixed reactions. Now, a new teaser suggests that we might be about to see a new one.

In the last few weeks, Pokemon fans have gotten reveals for Mega Victreebel and Mega Hawlucha. Both times, teasers appeared prior to the full reveal, giving gamers a time for when to tune in to a live reveal. This time around, the apparent teaser is a bit less straightforward. The morning of September 4th, The Pokemon Company’s official account on X shared a cryptic new video featuring a person spraypainting an image of Malamar. Though fans suspect it means another Mega Evolution reveal is imminent, the post doesn’t give a date or time as prior teasers have done.
New Malamar Video Could Be A Mega Evolution Teaser
Vague as prior teasers have been, both the Mega Victreebel and Mega Hawlucha posts included a date and time for players to tune in for a live reveal. This time around, the text for the post simply says Malamar.mp4. The video itself centers on Malamar, with the initial spraypaint sequence followed up by various fan celebrations of the squid Pokemon.
As the top response to the video shows, fans want to know what this means. “Oh come on, spill the beans,” reads a reply from Pokeos.com. While prior teasers were clearly leading up to a live video reveal of a new Mega Evolution, this one lacks that clarity. That said, each Mega reveal so far has been different. So, it’s possible this is leading up to yet another way of showcasing a new Mega Evolution.
When that will happen, however, remains unclear. Will we get a reveal later today via X, where the initial teaser was shared? Or is the announcement of a new live video date and time incoming? Or maybe this is simply more Pokemon Legends: Z-A promo with no Mega reveal incoming at all. Until The Pokemon Company sheds more light on the situation, anything is possible.
That said, Mega Malamar was one of the new Megas previously suggested in a Pokemon Legends: Z-A leak. The intel in that leak has proved correct so far, with both Mega Victreebel and Mega Hawlucha being among the list as well. So, it’s fairly likely that there is a new Mega Malamar design to be revealed at some point. Whether this teaser means we’ll see it in the coming days or later down the line remains to be seen.
