Marvel Studios’ The Fantastic Four: First Steps has just surpassed another Marvel Cinematic Universe movie at the global box office, and it probably won’t beat another one. First Steps released in theaters on July 25, 2025, introducing a brand-new iteration of Marvel’s First Family to the MCU and depicting their epic battle against the planet-eater Galactus and his cosmic herald, Shalla-Bal’s Silver Surfer. Matt Shakman’s Multiverse Saga flick quickly became the most successful and popular movie featuring the Fantastic Four โ though this wasn’t a very high bar โ and First Steps’ box office gross has proven its success.

As of September 22, 2025, The Fantastic Four: First Steps has grossed a total of $521 million at the global box office (via The Numbers). This means the Phase 6 movie has just surpassed the box office total of 2015’s Ant-Man ($519 million), despite coming to the end of its theatrical release. With First Steps now available for digital purchase at home, it’s theatrical run will soon be ending, which means it’s unlikely Marvel First Family’s MCU debut will pass the box office total of 2008’s Iron Man ($585 million), which is just too far off for First Steps to beat.
What The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ Box Office Total Means For the New MCU Team

By Marvel Studios’ standards, $521 million might not seem like a very impressive box office draw, but this total makes The Fantastic Four: First Steps the most successful Fantastic Four movie ever, so it good news for the team. The movie has passed The Incredible Hulk, Thor, Captain America: The First Avenger, Ant-Man, Black Widow, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Eternals, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, The Marvels, Captain America: Brave New World, and Thunderbolts* at the box office, though its positive reviews and high-rating perhaps build a better foundation for the team’s future.
Although Marvel Studios hasn’t officially confirmed anything, a sequel to The Fantastic Four: First Steps is practically inevitable and rumored to be in development. This project โ which is speculated to mark Matt Shakman’s return to the MCU โ is likely to release as part of the MCU’s next Saga in the wake of Avengers: Secret Wars, while the Fantastic Four will be returning in the Russo brothers’ Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars beforehand. Phase 6’s crossover movies are expected to bring the team from Earth 828 into the MCU’s new singular timeline, allowing them to continue.
Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach have done a fantastic โ pun intended โ job at bringing Marvel’s First Family to life in the MCU. During promotion for First Steps, they all expressed their excitement at being given the chance to portray Reed Richards’ Mister Fantastic, Sue Storm’s Invisible Woman, Johnny Storm’s Human Torch, and Ben Grimm’s Thing for years to come. It’ll be great to see the Fantastic Four back in action, and exciting to think about where they might go next.
