South Park was hit by a last-minute delay this past week that pushed its newest episode back another week, and one of the creators behind it all explained that they just didn’t get it done on time rather than it being pulled from air. South Park Season 27 has been in the midst of some huge schedule changes over the course of the last few weeks, and fans have been waiting anxiously to see each new episode as a result. But while one was scheduled to air last Wednesday, South Park ended up delaying the release of that episode hours before it was set to premiere.

With Comedy Central delaying South Park Season 27 Episode 5 to its new release date of Wednesday, September 24th, fans had been wondering what the reason could have been. As explained in an interview with The Denver Post, series co-creator Matt Stone revealed that the episode had not been pulled from broadcast or censored in some other way, the creative team “just didnโt get it done” in time for its previously scheduled premiere due to the last-minute nature of their production overall.
Why South Park Was Delayed at the Last-Minute

“No one pulled the episode, no one censored us, and you know weโd say so if true,” Stone explained. “We just didnโt get it done. When you always cut it close, sometimes you mess up. Thatโs the price of being a procrastinator.” This sentiment also falls in line with the official statement shared by the creators when the episode was delayed as well, “Apparently when you do everything at the last minute sometimes you donโt get it done,” the creators stated. “This oneโs on us. We didnโt get it done in time. Thanks to Comedy Central andย South Parkย fans for being so understanding. Tune in next week!”
While there might have been theories about why South Park’s episode had been delayed at the last minute, Stone reaffirms that it was because they could not meet the air date in time. This has been an issue with South Park Season 27 overall as it’s why it has been on a biweekly release in the first place, and the creators themselves have gone on record about their previous struggles as to how continue with each of the new episodes before they have gone on to air.
When Do New South Park Episodes Come Out?

While there have been issues with South Park Season 27’s broadcast run thus far, Comedy Central has confirmed the new schedule for the final episodes of the season. Confirming that there will be ten episodes in this season overall, and that each of them will continue to air on Wednesday evenings at 10PM ET with Comedy Central (and stream exclusively with Paramount+), the new schedule for South Park Season 27 breaks down as such:
- Episode 5 โ September 24th
- Episode 6 โ October 15th
- Episode 7 โ October 29th
- Episode 8 โ November 12th
- Episode 9 โ November 26th
- Episode 10 โ December 10th
There is still a chance that there could be more delays in the future as South Park might not reach those release dates in time either (because they do everything so down to the wire), but at least now there’s a concrete plan in place for future episodes. For now, you can catch up with all of South Park’s episodes, specials, and movie thus far with Paramount+. What do you think?
