It was previously teased by Shonen Jump that series creator Gege Akutami would be teaming up with Cipher Academy creator Yuji Iwasaki on a brand new series titled Modulo but there was actually a whole other surprise to reveal. With the official English launch of this new series, Modulo has actually been revealed to be a new Jujutsu Kaisen sequel series titled Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo following Yuta Okkotsu’s grandchildren and some brand new characters.

Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo has made its debut in Japan, and fans in the United States can read the first chapter of the new series completely for free with either Shueisha’s MangaPlus service or Viz Media’s digital Shonen Jump library. The first chapter runs for over50 pages, and takes place many years after the events of the original series. This new series introduces Yuka and Tsurugi, the grandchildren of Yuta Okkotsu and Maki Zenin. Yuta and Maki have since passed away leading into the events of the new sequel, and their grandchildren are busy working as Jujutsu Sorcerers in the Kyoto region.

Yuka and Tsurugi seem to share a few characteristics with their grandparents too. Tsurugi is revealed to not have any Cursed Techniques of his own and needs to use a Cursed Tool to fight like his grandmother, and Yuka was entrusted with protecting Rika’s ring by Yuta when he was in his final years. But after his passing, the clan decided to pass on Rika’s ring to Tsurugi instead, and it starts a whole other kind of rivalry between the two young sorcerers as they are thrown into their next major and unexpected mission for the sequel.

Why Jujutsu Kaisen’s Sequel Is Important

Jujutsu Kaisen continuing its story with a new sequel will hopefully help to alleviate some issues fans had with the original series’ ending. It left quite a divide when it seemed to rush the final battle against Sukuna, and even the epilogue chapters coming later didn’t quite seem to ease those worries. But with this new sequel series, it’s the perfect way to expand the world of the franchise. It’s even got its sights set higher with plans to expand its entire universe.

The major draw of this new series is a brand new character named Maru, who comes from an alien race that shares powers similar to Jujutsu Sorcerers. He’s come to Japan to see if humans can actually get along with these new alien fighters, but now it’s opening up a whole new can of worms as this franchise is about to explode in all kinds of ways through this shocking sequel release.
