5 Games Supposedly Coming Out in 2025 That Still Need A Release Date

This year has seen a handful of highly anticipated games finally lock down release dates. From Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 to Hollow Knight: Silksong, fans are being treated to the end of long waits thanks to confirmed release dates. But that doesn’t mean 2025 has been all wins. Big games like GTA 6 have been delayed to 2026, while others like Elder Scrolls 6 remain a full-on mystery. And then, there are games supposedly targeting a 2025 release window that still haven’t locked down a date.

From highly anticipated indies to a few big Nintendo first-party games, we have a few major releases supposedly headed our way in the later months of 2025. But as the weeks stretch on without confirmation, many fans are beginning to wonder if game delays are imminent. Here are a few of the hottest games that we’re still expecting for 2025, but without a firm release date in hand.

5. Hades 2

Technically, Supergiant Games still hasn’t officially promised a 2025 release window for Hades 2. But fan speculation that we will see the game, or at least a confirmed release date, this year is high. After all, the last update was supposedly the last one before the 1.0 release. The game also featured in the first-ever Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, suggesting its full release just might be imminent.

For now, we still don’t know when Hades 2 will release. But with that final update before the game’s full launch out of the way, it certainly feels like a late 2025 release is the way to go. Hopefully, we’ll hear more about the 1.0 release date for the roguelike sequel soon. At this point, it’s more or less ready to go, so barring any additional final patches, the game should arrive in the near future.

4. Witchbrook

I’ve said it once, and I’ll say it again. Not having a Witchbrook release date in hand makes me nervous. The highly anticipated cozy magic school game finally re-emerged from a period of long silence earlier this year, surprising everyone. Since then, the game has continued to affirm a “winter 2025” release window. But we still don’t have the actual date.

Given how long Chucklefish was silent about its game following the initial announcement, not having a date yet isn’t entirely surprising. The Witchbrook accounts on social media continue to share new tidbits about the game, so we don’t have full radio silence here. Still, several large Nintendo Showcase opportunities to reveal the date have passed us by, and we still don’t know when Witchbrook is coming out.

3. Slay the Spire 2

The sequel to the beloved indie roguelike Slay the Spire was announced back in 2024, with a first-look trailer at The Game Awards. Since then, the game has been targeting a 2025 release window. But that release window is getting smaller and smaller, without any official news from Mega Crit.

Mega Crit’s social media hasn’t been particularly active this year, though they haven’t gone entirely radio silent, either. Even so, updates about Slay the Spire 2 have been few and far between, which doesn’t exactly imply an imminent release for the sequel. That said, the team’s handle on X still includes “Slay the Spire 2 Coming 2025,” so that’s still the goal, as far as we know. Of the games on this list, I think a release date delay for this one feels most likely, just given how little we know about the game that’s supposedly releasing this year.

2. Metroid Prime 4

One of Nintendo’s highly anticipated games for the Switch 2 is Metroid Prime 4. Despite rumors and speculation, Nintendo still hasn’t revealed when Samus will be returning for the fourth installment. But their official website does still list a 2025 release window, so as far as we know, Metroid Prime 4 is coming this year.

Metroid Prime 4 is among a few supposed Switch 2 games for the year that we still don’t have a firm release date for. If rumors are true, a Nintendo Direct sometime in September 2025 should be the likely candidate for finally revealing when Metroid Prime 4 will arrive. But until then, a delay is still possible, though not super likely.

1. Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment

Another big Nintendo release for our list is Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment. This one appeared at the recent Nintendo Partner Showcase, as the Hyrule Warriors games are developed by Koei Temco. However, even at its more recent appearance, the game didn’t have a specific release date. Instead, Age of Imprisonment is listed as releasing “winter 2025.”

As with Witchbrook, that Winter 2025 window isn’t too far off at this point. But as of now, Nintendo has not confirmed a specific release date for Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment. It’s possible that it’s being saved for a potential Nintendo Direct in September, like other Nintendo titles that still don’t have dates set in stone. I doubt we’ll get a delay with this one, but these days, you never know. The longer we wait for an official release date, the less likely a 2025 release window becomes.
