New God of War Game To Be Revealed Soon, Fans Think

A new God of War game is going to be revealed soon, or at least some PlayStation fans on PS5 think this. It has been three years since the release of God of War Ragnarok on PS5, and seven years since the release of 2018’s God of War reboot. Four years separated these two releases. History would thus tell us the next God of War game is going to be released in 2026. This is also what recent reports have claimed. If this is the case, though, why hasn’t it been revealed? Well, maybe that is about to change.

Over on Reddit, some PlayStation fans, rather hopefully, noticed that the community manager at Santa Monica Studios — the developer behind the GOW series — had an interesting quote tweet on the social media platform X. Quote-tweeting a post about the relief the Insomniac Games X admin must have felt following the recent reveal of Marvel’s Wolverine, the Santa Monica Studios community manager posted, “I can’t wait until it’s my turn.” This caught the attention of some.

“They Might Be Revealing Something Soon”

Following this post, some speculation burst out that this is a tease that the studio is gearing up to reveal its next game. To this end, a post on the Gaming Leaks and Rumors Reddit page speculates the PlayStation developer “might be revealing something soon.” Some of the comments were quick to dispel this hopium, but others are equally hopeful that there is something to this.

“I’m betting it will be the final game announced at The Game Awards,” reads one of the comments. Another adds, “Ragnarok was in 2022, we should get something from Santa Monica this next year or in 2027.”

More Than One Potential Announcement

If this is teasing a new, looming God of War announcement, it could be one of two things, as there are two rumored God of War games. First is the obvious God of War Ragnarok sequel. The other, more heavily rumored God of War game is a metroidvania spin-off that serves as a prequel to the original God of War trilogy. There have also been rumors about a trilogy remaster, though this wouldn’t be something you would probably tease ahead of time.

Given all the rumors, a new God of War game announcement does indeed seem on the horizon, though there is no way to know if it’s being teased by the aforementioned community manager. Meanwhile, PlayStation and God of War both have history at The Game Awards, so as one of the comments above points out, if a reveal is going to happen this year involving Kratos, it will probably be at the December show.
